Why the barbed reaction to an opinion that just happens to differ to yours? As I said, no need to get all precious about such an insignificant action, anyway. The OP took the opinion for what it was, after all.

I didn't assume anything! I just said it sounded like (from the way you worded it) you were one of those.......
As for being 'barbed' it was nothing of the sort. A barbed reaction from me would be on a different level!
I fully accept your attitude is different to mine. At the end of the day, it means nothing.

I would like to ask a question to all the Subaru owners who don't give a little wave or acknowledgement to there fellow man do you go to club meets or any car shows how do you treat new comers that have come to your local meets do you introduce yourself to them or treat them like outcast?or better yet do you support your local meets or just want to drive around by yourself talking to yourselfI have come to the conclusion that there is some really nasty minded individuals in this world that's not worth anyone's time or effort and people like that are best left alone, anyway here's one on the house you know you can't resist.SJ.

I don't go to meets. So, for me at least, question's irrelevant.

Gave all that up, ooh, about 17 years ago (Southend and Chelsea cruises)

Not as big and it was a late one as back then there was no speed cameras and it was just over a quarter mile stretch that use to get used fully plus there was a hotdog stand that use to leave at 4am in the morning so it was just racing all night and showing cars off but you know how these things end up boy racers doing burnouts, car accidents playing running man to escape the police etc....it just took a couple of idiots that spoilt it for everyone else.SJ.

Always the same on cruises. Shame

I loved the hotdog/burger stands at cruises. Hell, I could really nail a burgervan cheesedog and pineapple cheeseburger right now.

Starved...

I give a little wave. Sometimes I get a little wave back, sometimes I dont, sometimes I am the replying waver. I like it. Others dont, that's their choice, no big deal.

As for chav drivers, they cant see over the steering wheel as they are lying down in the driver's seat. They cant see other scooby drivers (or any other driver) so no wave from them

I usually give a thumbs up if its a sti or a tastefull (not chav) looking wrx, Same in my GT4 and GTR its just a mark of respect and acknowledgment and being friendly to somebody who you believe shares the same enthusiasm to their cars as you do for yours.

You can still be really into your own car, without feeling the need to nod/wave at others who happen to be driving the same marque or model as your own.

Also, if you're the instigator, you're assuming the other driver is like-minded.

It really is a strange thing to do, IMO.
The majority of delivery drivers (UPS, City Link etc) wave at each other, at least they did when I was on the road.
Bikers have always done the same. In fact now I come to think of it I've spent most of my life waving at other road users lol.

I think we should be proud of it, it seperates us from other car owners. For those that don't get it I'd ask why does anyone go to car meets? It's just a gathering of people with cars?.

For anyone who has any interest in psycho-analysis or personality profiling, this is a case study in introverted versus extroverted expression of core human motivations.

Note that the two posters who have expressed negative views on this thread of public acknowledgements of fellow drivers have 17,000 and 18,000 posts on Scoobynet respectively. This suggests that they have the same desire to connect with other enthusiasts, but that they prefer to do so in a virtual environment.

One is not better than the other - as has already been pointed out, it's horses for courses, and in fact underlying it all we're actually all rather similar.

Christ I wave at everyone! If im walking the dog and go past someone else I'll say hello or nod. If im having a jog or a bike ride Ill nod and acknowledge someone doing the same. Its like saying "We have the same interests! Huzzah!".

Ill wave at the majority of Subaru's I see. Although I do make the mistake of waving at Legacy diesels thinking theyre Legacy GTs due to the bonnet scoop lol. I wave at any modified car as it suggests a similar mindset. A few weeks ago heading into Leeds I exchanged nods with a guy in a nice Mk5 Golf R32 with some 3SDM wheels. Recently I waved like a mad sod at some guy with a immaculate classic VW Caddy. The other night I shared a thumbs up with a lad in a very tidy Supra on the M65

The heart of it is basically like saying "In this sea of fellow motorists who treat their cars as white goods, I also love them, love modifying them, and appreciate that you hold a similar mindset".

That said a lad in a white R33 GTST once swore at me haha

That guy was seriously grumpy.

Brilliant, one of the best posts I have seen on any forum for a while.

Now back on track I wave at those that wave back but don't instigate.
