I'm no mechanic, but a set of decent forged pistons retails at around £500-600, Cosworth head gaskets about £300.

I'm sure the bulk wholesale price would be a lot less.

I realise that these things are all built to a cost, but surely for less than a fcucking grand?

Subaru U.K have not (in many peoples opinions) stood by there customers following inherent issues with the 2.5 engine. Post 2008 they had many opportunities to come clean and do the honourable thing. As a Business they chose to swerve and cover there position. I remember saying in 2009 that it would end in tears and I don't get any pleasure in sitting back now and seeing how things are.

In answer to your point. Those of us that hang around, do so because we were part of the Subaru Community and over all they bring back good memories. I also feel that whilst it would be nice if the forum was all positive, it is really important that fellow owners and more importantly the newbies get a balanced view. The horror stories, poor back up and engine issues are all part of how Subaru is now perceived (by some).

Subaru appear to have missed another opportunity to put the 2.5 issues to bed. They haven't taken it and that's simply why they will continue to pay the price.
I've certainly read alot on the forum about issues with IM - but I guess like everything for every 100 satisfied folks, there are others who have not been dealt with as they would like or want. It does seem though that there are also alot of posters who just want to **** on other peoples bonfires, but I guess thats the thing about anonymous forums, on the internet, no one knows you are a dog as the famous cartoon says.

I can say I have been treated well by IM - we had a engine failure, not on an Impreza, but actually out of warranty due to mileage, but it was replaced. I've just had a clutch done on another one, under warranty, which I hoped I would get sorted, but was also prepared for a knock back as they can be just seen as wear and tear items too. That said, i'm well into double figures in terms of ownership so i;d hope that counts for something....but I certainly understand if others have been ignored with a major engine failure how pissed i'd be for sure.

That said, those that are on this forum who now simply want to say their Focus, Golf, AMG or Honda **** all over Subaru are just plain trolling....! its scoobynet not trollingnet after all, so i;d expect some love for the cars even if you no longer run one.

Any issues i;ve had had generally been dealt with by the dealership, who have been excellent, but i've also contacted IM MD and management and always had good quality responses. I cannot say the same for other marques i've run over the years, so i've been happy to stick with Subaru.

For me the biggest issue now is the lack of a car that suits my needs and floats my boat, apart from perhaps the new STI, but, the dog wonders how he;s going to manage in the saloon........
