Meh..the one plate is worth at least £5K, not one to brag as its a family heirloom (three letters one digit).
A few years back I sold JNP 6 for £3K (was on a James motorbike...plate was worth more than the bike ). Its on ebay now for £11.5K ...hasn't sold mind, LOL.
But yeah the typical £200 six or seven digit plates are a waste of time and money.

Okay Ali B - fair play, a genuine investment, so you take the rough with the smooth
Most people playing for those stakes would, it comes with the territory
But to take a cheap shot at an improvement just seems daft, pointless and backward
The ability to Tax my car, from my armchair, with a glass of wine on a sunday evening is worth the potential eventuality that I may miss out on 3 weeks tax
progress - not always smooth, but ultimately worth it

Its not a cheap shot...its a observation that is lack of foresight to update all the DVLA services in harmony with the taxing system. My issue is that reg transfers should be able to be done online like the tax.
Especially with the consideration that closing down local offices means there is a need for an alternative to the "postal only" service that is available.
What I'm saying it seems some departsments have moved with times and technology but other departments in Swansea appear to be stuck in the 1980's. For example, have you seen the retention reminder/renewal slips? They haven't changed for as long as I remember - its at least as long as I've owned a car (18 years). It doesn't even support OCR! Meaning that someone in Swansea has to to it all manually. At least the main retention certificate is OCR compatible, but even then, is it really necessary to post them a expired certificate if renewing - its expired so its useless.
Its bonkers that we can tax online withteh DVLA, but can't do anything else.

okay, hopefully it will come - the harmonisation of technology across departments
I have a vested interest, for 3 years I have had to tax my Caterham Kit car at a local DVLA office because of some problem with my V5 - it now no longer exists (the dvla office)
Ridiculous - and my V5 is currently at Swansea
But my point is Ali, the new Car Tax rules are progress, yes a few marginal cases may suffer (people who can aford vanity plates)
And As my younger brother says "to make an omelette you have to break some eggs"
But, but you get an omelette
