Correct, and thats why she paid back the excess claim.
Her parents living with her (as well as her brother) was a long standing arrangement. It was still her home.
What you get from reading into this stuff, is some MP's are crooks, but others just lead busy lives and to be honest, are pretty shambolic in the way they organise them.

But if you read the letters she sent to the committee, she simply did not think she should be investigated
She tried to have the investigation stopped, she gave evasive and partial accounts, and when the commissioner pressed her, to provide the correct information - she started to consult legal advice and sent threatening legalistic letters.
She simply believes that she should live by a different set of rules

Hodgy my friend, they're all in it together-the mps that is. There's no way this parasite would have had the brass neck to do what she did (post being caught out) unless she had an emphatic backing. Did you notice the manner in which all the ministers and backbenchers rushed to provide a united front behind her. Thus giving her free licence to sneer at all the naysayers.

What ever the legal position she looks like she is unconcerned about public opinion.
Given the massive publicity & general disgust at the MP's expenses scandals over the past few years that has damaged the public's perception & trust of them more than anything else in my experience would you not think that it would be a very high priority to ensure that she kept her financial affairs as spotless as possible?
Facts:
The property was bought for £234,000 in 1996, but she and her husband subsequently raised a mortgage on it of £525,000.
Is this just a ruse to borrow money & let the tax payer pay the interest?
I don't think that's the point of 'second home allowance'.
Also claiming £45,000 over a long period can hardly be considered a minor oversight.
We should abolish all these fancy antiquated financial rules, allowances & Parliamentary committees that adjudicate them that the MP's have inherited &
they should be subject to same laws as any other state employed civil servant & subject to the same penalties.

Another issue that doesn't seem to be being asked, is why the hell she has a second home allowance when she lives in Basingstoke! Plenty of people make that commute daily. It's not exactly Cornwall or Scotland is it!

It drives the " golden hello,s" and "platinum goodbyes" - often for mediocre performance

As long as people find it acceptable to blame the system for being wrong and not the person then it's not going to go away.
What ever happened to leading by example?

Yep except Leveson's recommendations have never been implemented and it would seem instead that the politicians are happy to use it as a sword to the throat of the press instead!
Mind you it's Hobson's choice as to which is better, the press or the politicians... both full of lying self serving scum!
It's a f**king shambles to be frank!
Anyway where's Martin to tell us we're all wrong as usual!

They should pay MP's properly and ditch "expenses" altogether.
I'd prefer to see professionals running the country personally.

An MP's basic pay is 66k That's over twice the most generous estimate of the national average graduate salary.
I suspect the issue is that for too long the expenses system have existed as a way of supplementing this salary to either a) effectively create a considerably higher "take home" salary b) generate a standard of living that does not detract significantly from the basic wage i.e. meaning they have to spend less and therefore keep more of their wage.
If we want to attract people who are in politics for the job as opposed to the lifestyle then the expenses system needs a massive overhaul. The above system is inherently "shifty" and non-transparent not to mention completely out of step with other important public sector jobs. It promotes MPS manufacturing schemes motivated by self interest that adhere to the letter of the rules but not their spirit and puts too much onus on said MPs spending time, money and effort justifying perks rather than doing the job they are paid (well) to do!
Case in point: this woman!

£66k is not enough to get out of bed for, in all honesty.
Not for a MP's job and hours that's for sure.
It ends up being rich Eton boyz in politics - as they don't have to earn the money see? They have inherited wealth backing them up.
Make it a straight salary of £200k a year with NO extras at all ..... do that and I may be interested in it .......
............. will you all vote for me?
