I read today that she had a sly tip about second home expenses, said that it was her main home and then sold it later and avoided the 28% inheritance tax on second homes.........it it made a million thats a cool £280,000 tax avoided.

Makes the 40 grand she sidestepped chicken feed !

If no one voted the country would be in status quo and the same loathsome lot again for another term, or the politicians would vote themselves back in.

Her mistake was getting caught. It's clear the abuse of expenses is endemic and I very much doubt this case would be the last nail in the coffin for expenses for the political class. I don't think Cameron will sack her, more likely move her to another non job away from cabinet, I see a cabinet reshuffle on the way....

She's finally realised the depth of opinion against her and resigned. No doubt she still thinks she did nothing wrong as her sort never do! Good riddance and let's see if Cameron finally realises backing her was wrong.... I doubt it! He should resign too really as he is so far out of touch with public and, in many ways, political opinion it's ridiculous!

Indeed - good riddance.
However, how many others have yet to be uncovered for fraudulent expense claims.

I hope the investigations in to her fraud will still continue and not be closed just because she has resigned (probably with a fat pension to boot!)

I was hoping she'd stick around a little longer. I'm sure she could have caused more damage.

Ding dong .....................

As above let's hope this isn't now seen as justice being served. She should be in court as a benefit fraudster or thief.

She'll fade away into obscurity and nothing will happen to her. Cameron will see to that! Scum, the lot of them!

I still want my money back.

Why are we still treating MP's as a special case with their own special rules & privileges policed by themselves? They have proved time after time they cannot be trusted.

They should be independently audited & any second homes should be provided by the state & remain the property of the state.
Miller made a massive profit from claiming & flipping her 'second home' at our expense.

The big one that really intrigues me & has ever since the expenses scandal reared it's ugly head is the amount of scumbaggery & pig troughfery that is going on in the European Parliament. I would hazard a guess that it makes Westminster look like a bunch of amateurs.

Come on Telegraph get your finger out.

a good friend of mine has a sibling in the current cabinet, who was also an MEP

when we talked about this - he mentioned figures approaching 500k a year

Do we have any clue on a more accurate figure?

Seems that it's either 5K, 45K, or 90K

Agree - she should be in Court not the House of Commons.

..And has used the proceeds of this sale of her taxpayer funded "2nd Home" to buy a nice £1.2m tudor barn country retreat in Hampshire for herself. Hopefully it will go some way to help her get over the "devastation" she suffered for letting her Basingstoke constituents down.

FFS Cameron's stll at it. He has just said in PMQs that he thought it was 'right to let her apologise and get on with her job'.

How out of touch with the public's opinion of this is he? It's like when he wanted to take us into war with Syria over an unsubstantiated chemical attack report that turned out to be bollocks ... to this day he can't work out why so few people supported him!

because we are in danger on conflating two different things

the "flipping" to avoid 400k of capital gains tax - allowable under the rules at the time

and not reducing her claim for interest on a mortgage - which is what this row is about

... and her faux 'apology'
... and her aide's veiled threat about Leveson.
... and MPs over-ruling an independant body about how much she should pay back.
... and the general smell of a corrupt politician about her.

You want to have a nuanced debate on the rights and wrongs of the Miller case...ON HERE. Good luck fella.

You are far better off just closing your mind and calling everyone lying scum; that seems to be about the general level of the thought and debate on here right now

Yes far better to applaud these people for trying to work the system and if they go too far, let's all have a jooly good laugh, ask them to pay it back and apologise

You keep criticising me for calling them liars yet they keep on lying. So who's the d1ckhead here?

Brushing it under the carpet seems to be your mantra, I would be interested to know if you can walk across your living room floor or is there so much under your own carpet you need hill walking equipment to navigate it?
