I guess Moley would be best placed to answer this. I'm sure he will be a long shortly.

A Plan charged me £24 extra due to a non fault claim when a van was shoved into the back of my runaround by another car. So even when not at fault some companies still charge you more! Only answer they would give me is that it's still an accident...

They all came from the factory in need of a respray.

it protects your NCD (discount being the main word!) but the premium still goes up.
you still you're NCD.. just on a higher insurance premium amount.

please correct me if I'm wrong.

back to OP.
get a price to fix/paint bumper. give it to her.. see what she wants to do.
going through insurance would be more expensive for her, so give her the option to pay.. that way her insurance isn't claimed on and she pays no excess.

btw.. why has she a range rover anyway?

She has always wanted one and had Land Rover Discos before. But she paid £9k for a 2002 Vogue V8 with an LPG conversion with around 70k on the clock about a year ago. It's been nothing but problems.

Plus she likes to 'lord' over other motorists. Her words. :rolleyes?

Will tell her straight this morning. I'm having it repaired my way.

It was a horrible feeling waking up and remembering what happened to my car. Even my 3 year old son noticed the crack when I picked him up from nursery yesterday. He loved the scoob and said 'Scooby ouch' when he saw the crack.

Hope you get it sorted mate. As said above, just get a proper quote for a decent repair and talk it through with her. Will be easier in the long run if she just pays for the repairs outside of insurance!

Oh I completely agree. Seeing Altered Image Coachworks tomorrow. Oddly enough, she hasn't mentioned anything about it this morning! I was going to snow foam my car this weekend too as our director has a Porker 911 and threw me a bottle to try. No point now I guess.

Glad you have gone back to her, if you just took it and paid yourself she would never learn anything.

She is actually management and I used to work for her. Luckily. Not anymore. She likes to try and make you feel stupid, you know the sort I mean.

I have also taken over her audit duties. You would think that working for a company for 7 years, I'd be out of the 'new boy' bracket.

Luckily my boss doesn't really get on with her either so I have his backing. He also said that if she pissed about with regards to payment, to take it to our financial director.

I like to play chicken with these types of driver...whenever they cross over the white line to my side of the road (cutting corners, going round parked cars etc), I position myself, not blinking, stare straight at them and head right for them....they soon get back to the correct side of the road.

And if they hit me?

I'm in a Ncap 5 car with a gazillion airbags (eight, I think), and I fancy a change, plus by neck's in knots anyways, so some free physio would be mucho appreciated

As for the bumper, get a quote or two. Give it to her, If she doesn't want to pay, go through insurance.

Make certain you say you want a repair that can be guranteed via the MVRA (or similar repairer's association), not a back street codge which is what she is implying. Afterall, why should you cut corners for something that's not your fault?

The claim would most likley be settled 50/50, with no witnesses to prove you didnt cross the centre line as well. So your insurance will go up, you'll only get 50% of the value of your car, and only 50% of any medical/injury claim.

There are better ways

Yeah buy a secondhand car from batman and fire some missiles at them.It can be expensive to insure and they are not great on fuel but well worth it.

I can afford it; I never cross the line though, they do. And to be frank I just don't care enough anymore. Yeah I am that unhinged these days.

Since I had one run me off the road, I've lost the plot

Yes IMO.

A few years back my M3 was nicked following a break in at my house. Claim went well, bought a replacement. Come renewal time the quote from my broker was virtually 3 x the previous year; the existing insurer refused to re-insure so I was at the mercy of new quotes. I managed to get it down to a shade under double the previous cost in the end, but was still pissed off. NCB is a waste of time since they can simply just do this to you.

What's it got to do with the finance director? I would steer clear of 'involving' senior works management.

Hope you get it resolved satisfactorily, she sounds a right bitch

Because it is a small company and I get on with him. Had punctures before due to crap left around the site and they have paid out for new tyres. Other people have had their cars damaged at work and he had approved payment for repairs.

Her fault, her has no say!!!!!

Your car and pride, so ensure replaced like for like at least as not her call!!!

Someone mentioned in earlier reply you can demand 'like for like courtesy car' - is this totally correct as I got handed a Mr Bean lookalike a few years ago when I had the Hawk so that info would be very handy to know?

That was me mate, My Hawk STi got damaged and when I told the lady on the phone I want like for like, she said no problem sir, you will be given a car from our sports and prestige range, they sent a BMW 325D M sport!!

Like for like, I told the lady that I want something fast, looks good and had 4 doors, I pay high tax, and high insurance to drive round in my Subaru so I want something that is as equal, as I cant get money back from the tax or insurance for being without my subaru for nearly a month!!!

Good call mate, and quite right. Wonder if all companies ensure this feature and within your rights, or simply depends on who insurance is with at the time. Something I hope never to need, but will certainly be asking the question if so

The other guys insurance was Tesco and they was brilliant to be fair, everything I needed/wanted they did for me which included sending to the garage of my choice etc, but what you got to remember your the victim, your going to be without your car and its a major in-convenience to you!!

Regarding the courtesy car, I phoned my insurance company to tell them that someone had hit my car, and gave them the details of the other guy etc, and told them that I needed a courtesy car, they then passed my details onto a company called Easidrive who then got in contact with me and provided me with the courtesy car who then would charge the other guys insurance company!!!

atleast yours looks like it will be paid for..

local retail park car park bollard did this to mine like 4 months ago. it was one of those up near the shop spaces where theres 2 spaces and bollards between the edges of the spaces and the pedestrian areas. long story short it was dark, think also some of the lamps in the carpark had naff bulbs also if memory serves as i remember thinking "it looks a bit dark here" and the bollard on the corner was missing its reflective strip round it. i pull up, turn the front out, turn wheels back and check mirror, see the bollard in my side mirror so know im clear (but it was the next bollard i saw) then proceed to reverse back until a surprise thump.. it took out the original hawk tail light also but i fancied changing over to reds anyway.

got a bumper here for it which i went out of my way to get in WRB and "in good condition so i can fit it without painting" and the breaker i bought from via ebay sends me out a WRB bumper with various little scratches and laquer peeling on both sides.. if it had of been a local breaker and not posted over from england it would have gone straight back but as it was ebay as well i ended up getting a partial refund. i should hopefully be gettinh the bumper painted soon as the dented bumper on the car has taken all the enjoyment away from the car for me, i have rarely even washed it since that happened. the worst bit is that because it took out the tail light it has ever so slightly tweaked the rear 1/4 and pushed the light in towards the bootlid a couple MM so theres a small crack in the paint near top edge of the light as well as me noticing the lights position is slightly off so ill have to address that too even though the average joe wouldnt notice..

the shop manager or whoever it was apologised and all that but the responsibility lies with the owners of the retail park as the stores are just renting the buildings and the park owners didnt want to know, even though the bollard was not visible due to the reflective strip missing (they were matt black of all colours). its my first proper prang since i started driving too lol

This is what a rolling car(no handbrake or driver) did to my hawk STi. I would not have minded if the standard hawk lexus style rear lights but I had already changed them over to the blob rear lights!!!

Sucks doesn't it. I'm actually considering selling it after it's fixed. The roads around here are full of pot holes and trying to park at work is a nightmare.

So annoying as I've waited so long for my 4th scoob.

If there is a god, he is **** taking ****!

I know where your coming from, I went out for a meal with the missus and kid yesterday, and when we got to the restaurant and parked in a multi story car park, I was looking round for ages trying to find a parking space away from the other cars, driving slow so I didnt hit my splitter and kerb my wheels to the annoyance of my missus, who then pointed out that there where plenty of Porsche's and Ferrari's parked up next to other cars, and didnt seem to have the same problem as me parking!!!!

Exactly. People with porkers and fezza's who park in a multi-story car park obviously don't care if their cars get knocked.

I wince when I get back to my car and see a people carrier parked next to it full of kids seats. I have to check for dents which makes me feel like a complete tool.

When you can afford a Ferrari or Porsche you can afford to pay for the dent man to come out or any damage to re repaired, but when your a normal working bloke a dent can take a large chunk of cash from your monthly cash flow!!

Im the same, I park away from other cars, sometimes furthest away from anyone else and if I come back and someones parked next to me, im checking the doors for dents, But if I can really help it, I try not to take the subaru to car parks and take the the missus Fiesta TDCi instead(which is full of dents)!!
