Not really and vta dump valves differ in sound anyway. My GFB makes a noise like air being release from tyres, some sound like hydraulic brakes and the HKS SSQ sounds like a squeal.

Most chatter on a moderately powered WRX will to an undiscerning listener sounds similar to a BOV venting at lower revs.


Chaa or chii. Not sure why one is maligned and the other not.

I am well aware different bovs make different noises, I have had a few in my time, and mine makes chattering and dumping noises due to the set up I have running on my car.

Chatter should not sound like a BOV in any way shape or form lol, the noise is dependant on what boost you are running too, when on low boost my chatter was alot more noticeable, on high boost it didnt chatter hardly at all

TBH both are the noise of released air, but with air hitting blades on one. There are so many bloody noises like you say it's hard for someone with less knowledge to discern one from the other. Big arf's car emits a frank chirp when he changes gear which is unlike normal chatter or vta.

TBH as well most car lovers and admiring ladies I've spoken to think the gear change causes the noise/noises!
