£1500 not enough
Best get a bank loan for 3 k and get a decent one is my advice
I have had my MY00classic with 63k since new and worth maybe £1800-£2200 ? Tops and have estimated I will be spending over £3000 on it tackling rust and general renovations with it if the price was 5k I would still spend it as I have nothing else to spend money on and it's sentimental to me but you won't get a decent one for £1500 a decent service and cam belt will be £300-£400. Tyres £110 per corner and that's before anything goes wrong

Its none of my business I know but just find it hard to see how any 21-22 year old can get insurance for a wrx/sti. Their was a young lad down in Cornwall that managed it but I know its very cheap down there. I have since read/heard that a few young lads have had trouble and once given the reg got the real quote which was twice their previous one.

I only say because I genuinely would feel bad if it feel through for you at the last minute . But also do you really want to spend more on insurance than the cars worth. Normally if something is to good to be true then it probably is and in my eyes a wrx/sti for a 21-22 year old for £1500 is. With in a year you could end up spending about £3000 on repairs and insurance alone.

Hope that this don't annoy you to much and would love to see you prove me wrong.

looks like i'm in exactly the same boat as you mate.
i've been having a brief look around at a few old imprezas.
i put a thread up in the subaru section of pistonheads and got pretty much the same replies: watch out for rust, maintenance will cost a lot, save up and get a blobeye etc etc

i was born in 1992 aswell, i've had a quick look around the comparison sites, best insurance i've found for a older model wrx sti is £980 for the year which i was well impressed with. thats with 1 years no claims and my mom and dad both on the policy as named drivers(nocked it down about £600 with them on).
i'd say insurance shouldnt be a problem, it certainly helps if you put your mom/dad/brother/sister/cat/dog etc... on the policy aswell, the more names the better. have a quick look on confused.com its pretty easy to chop and change quotes on there...

When I was 19yrs old I was paying £700 for an Audi GT that was 29yrs ago, and if you think about what the Audi Quatro was doing on the rally scene my GT was the equivalent of an Impreza wrx went like stink in it's day with a 2.144 engine, so I don't think £2k is so bad almost 30yrs on.
