leasing is either an easy way of buying something new that you cannot afford to buy outright
or a financial mechanism that allows you to allocate your financial resources to the most beneficial effect - i.e. you have the money but can work the figures, usually through tax efficiency to make it better financial sense
it is that simple, I always have better uses for money than to poor them into depreciating assets

I shall then take the Rover to Croatia for some more Ferrari bashing.
Slight twist being i'll go for a 1 year old car @ circa 25% less cost but still with the remainder of the warranty and also look at the 1.5 tdci that does 85mpg combined or one of the eco boost jobbies at 65mpg.
I do less miles than she does so we should end up not only cost neutral but saving on our monthly out goings, with both our joint fuel bills for the month being reduced by as much as 50%. I just need to get some exact figures to do the maths over a 2yr deal, there may even be scope to buy as opposed to leasing and so keep some of the asset value after 2yrs.

lol well ,, ive been testing a dsport+ diesel hdi for 18 months now and its been faultless ,, handles like its stuck to the road and returned about 55mpg overall with the accelerator fairly well stuck to the carpet and in the real world it has useful torque so its so far from awful words cant describe - 550 miles to a tank easy and can do 6hour either way trips in a day without refuelling and arrive home relaxed and comfy and looking forward to the next long drive.
looks might not be everyones taste but get a top spec hd1 one like mine with full leather,6 speed and all the toys and its an amazing package

Best I can get so far is a 1yr old pug 208 for £158, and I don't fancy it much tbh as it's a 1.4 petrol and not a great deal better on fuel than the Rover, so it's a bit of a non starter.
Went to the Ford dealership and got offered £1800 for my blob but still the numbers don't add up @ £204 pm for a fiesta, i'd sooner have the st for that money.

Except I bought mine properly.
Something is missing here; the ST may "just" be a Fiesta but it's had nothing but praise for it's superb handling and zippy engine. I'd be pretty happy with one if funds got a bit tight.

Well these deals seem ok if your going to do low miles, as in 5/8k but as soon as you want 5 doors and a measly 12k miles the price starts to climb. So looks like the reality is way different to the fantasy, god forbid if the mrs did 20k in a diesel fiesta in a year I think they'd have a heart attack, and so would we with the extra charges if we decided just to hand back the keys.
So it would seem that one may well do the math and it sounds good, even makes very good financial sense on paper, but there in lies the problem, it's only on paper.
I'll be fcuked if i'd pay £11/13k for a fiesta then stick 60k on it over 3yrs and watch the value of it fall through the floor like a stone.
So bangernomics wins.
Shame really as I was quite excited about it for a day.
Edit to add; and it's over 3 years so the sums get really screwed.

But works if you do lowish miles. If I was doing big miles I'd just get something diesel, half decent and on a good finance rate. Like you say if you go drastically over the mileage the price goes up a fair bit.
