I wonder how reliable the 1.6 petrol C class Mercedes from around 2010 is.

If I get another estate......Seems very good economy to power, no turbo to blow up / engine to soot up . Nice look and comfy

Few quick pics. I couldn't get the best angles because I was trying to avoid getting the license plate number (not sure why I do that as it's hardly confidential info)

And yes it does look like a hearse

Stunning looking car , but was having cold sweats looking at the rear right wheel and how close it was to the kerb.

I see the PSA group 1.6 petrol came top of its group again (its about 8 years running), not many engines do that (all the faults are down to bmw though for using cheap parts )

Had a timing chain issue yet?

Lots of non-turbo version of the prince engine are now cropping up with rattling chains. I'm not complaining....Like the K-series, it repairable, so good for business.

Unlike the 1.6 PSA diesel which just generally completely gunks itself up to the point that its just not worth messing with and cheaper to replace the whole engine. Very few turbo companies will "properly" warranty a new turbo fitted to an old engine. I've noted Dave at APi has a rather nice pdf presentation in the public domain of how these die (presumably for a court/claims case against a warranty company)....that was "engine of the year 2007".

Thinking about it, there are quite a few engines that get this award and then later prove to be problematic: Off the top of my head with the mainstream stuff we have the PSA DV6, PSA Prince, Mazda Renesis, Subaru EJ25, BMW N47. Then we have the Prius units which is a huge question mark issues posed when the batteries expire and the complaints about excessive fuel consumption on the Ford Ecoboosts.

Really bad, but given my annual mileage is very low I'm hoping I can cope with it.

I know these things have clever fuel saving modes where some of the engine "shuts down" but I suspect mid to high teens.

Ali, the Prince engine is actually pretty good, the timing chain issue is an easy fix (note my prince engined car doesnt have a timing chain ) but you can blame that issue on bmw

Its ok, I wouldn't say its any better than anything else out these though.

Chains are simple. Which is good, as we see plenty of them. As I said, nice little earner

Probably about that.
My CLK55 averages about 18 mpg, provoke it though and it rewards around 7!
