That's quite strongly worded for a rumour.
But if it comes to pass, you heard it here first

Does anyone think Alonso might actually go to Williams instead. That car is wasted on Massa.

I would be amazed if Hamilton would resign for McLaren. The again, stranger things have happened.

why? it was one of the few times a driver leaving wasn't fired, he left on good terms with them didn't he? so why would it be a problem for him to go back?

I'm guessing GH's angle is, why would he move from the winningest team.

Of course, Merc. may no longer be, in 2015. But then neither might McLaren.

If you were to play the odds, then Merc. is still the better bet, obviously.

Because he has a sure thing with Mercedes.

He won one championship in 6 years driving for McLaren. He hated the corporate restraints that McLaren placed on him and hence why he is now posting a lot more on Facebook/Twitter etc. He has so much more freedom at Merc, so that is why I would be amazed if he goes back.

There is no guarantee that the Honda/McLaren tie up will be anywhere near as successful as it was back in the 80's. Unless Lewis knows something that we don't.

May be he looked at his options after Rosberg took him out at Spa. He has been driving brilliantly ever since, so I guess it is possible.

But, for the above reasons, I will still be amazed.

I seem to remember a lot of people saying that about McLaren when he was there. I think he was widely labelled as stupid for going to Merc at the time.

If he was to move (and I am not saying he is as it sounds a huge long shot to me) it would be because he knows more than we do.... maybe Honda have a stonker of an engine under development.

As no expert in Formula 1 I can only compare to a motorsport I know a little more about. MotoGp teams started testing their 2015 bikes with their current crop of riders several months ago, and this led to riders swapping seats or resigning contracts.

I don't think F1 publicly test next years cars, if they do then its been well hidden. Most teams seem to accept "development years" and know their cars/bikes won't start off great but look to add mid-season (again not sure if this is allowed in F1).

As an example Brit Cal Crutchlow was sold the idea, or the wages at least of Ducati for this season and his position in world standing has gone down. He's received no upgrades at all to his bike this season, which is practically unheard of. He's moved to LCR Honda for next season.

So it could be all about the salesmanship of each team to procure the best drivers with promises that may or may not come true. If Lewis was to become champion, and he leaves Mercedes it would be a shock to me. Unless throughout the last few months the upgrades or room for improvement has drastically slowed at Mercedes even though they seem to be head and shoulders above the other teams.
Perhaps he knows the Mercedes won't be as competitive next year?

Does anyone know the reasons behind Mclarens choice to move to Honda for next season?

Put simply Ron Dennis believes you will generally only get the best engine and information about that engine if you are a 'works' team. His reasoning is pretty sound, very few 'customer' engined cars win championships. Mercedes have the best engine this year, but the works car is a second a lap faster than the Williams, FI or McLaren... some of that will be down to good design, but some of it is probably down to them using the engine in the best way too.

Honda want back in and are only going to supply McLaren initially so Ron figures all their focus will be on his car. Add to that the fact that the last McLaren/Honda partnership was extremely successful and you can see why he is doing this.

honda want into f1 for one reason to sell cars and the fact that future cars will be developed using f1 engine technology.

they wont fail and have the financial power to chuck money at it until they do succeed.

As above works team, McLaren don't like being a customer team, they want to win.

Plus the technology is far more relavent these days. I still miss the sound of the V10 and V8 but it is impressive just how quick but yet efficient F1 cars now. What are they getting? 8mpg? That's double what the V10's used to do.

Anyone think there is a curved ball about to be thrown here?

The only absolute facts we know are that Vettel has left Red Bull for 2015 and Kyvat is in at Red Bull for 2015.

Horner said Ferrari made Vettel a very attractive offer, but neither Vettel nor Ferrari have confirmed his move there with Vettel commenting thus yesterday:

"I hope I will be able to make an announcement soon and once the announcement is out I think you are probably clever enough to draw the conclusion why I had to wait."

Alonso has said little too, even less than in recent weeks.

I can't help but feel there is a bombshell coming here... what do you all think?

Agreed, I have a feeling Alonso isn't going to end up where everybody thinks he will. Lotus announcing they've signed an engine deal with Mercedes could be part of the twist.
