Ha its a bitch sometimes, TB would only seem to take my best cows/calves that I had spent money on.
Of subject but what age do they hit peak and at what percentage do you get ride? It can be a hard choice some times to know when to bring the next generation in so iam told and you don't always get it right.

As regards to peak, I can talk about peak egg production which occurs at around 30 weeks of age, maxing out at 93% with a slow, gradual and stable decrease down to 87% by the time they hit 72 weeks of age which is when they go off to slaughter for processed meat. Very rarely do I have production drop below 85%.
As mentioned, I don't breed (that's for a different type of farm), but I do buy my birds in as 1 day old chicks and I rear them on-site in my specific rearing shed all the way to 16 weeks old which is 'point-of-lay' and then they get moved into my laying sheds which has all the nesting facilities and other equipment for them to lay their eggs, etc.

With regards to the TB comment, I was making reference to the chickens being killed post vaccination and how some times it feels like the problems come at the worst time. In your case I assume its around peek lay. If only the fox would turn up the week your getting rid.
