The Malaysian aircraft was flying over a war zone . Other major carriers are avoiding Ukraine airspace .
I would conclude Malaysian Air were flying through a hostile zone to save fuel.

That is very true,

add some vodka, a pair of binoculars and 33,000 ft and it could be flying in any direction...

I'm booked on a trip to Chernobyl in October. Need to book flights with BA but concerned BA will stop flying to Kiev if this isn't sorted quickly.

Yes is was flying over a conflict area, However a NOTAM (Notice to airmen) issued by the Aviation Authority stopped flying below FL320. With MH17 flying over at FL330 it was 'OK' to do so.

although 1000ft / 300m is not that much.

wow, just read the transcripts of the recorded conversations. Very daming indeed if true. Even when hes told it was civilian, his reply, 'what were they doing in a warzone, they must have been spies.'

Interesting, be hard to say if it was genuine or not though as both sides would be inclined to set up the other.

Watched RT today to get another perspective. They showed the scene uncensored......dead bodies all over the place. Wouldn't see that on the BBC.

What risk?
They've used that route for many years, many other airlines used it as well.

Here's the flights using the same route over the previous 7 days.

http://www.spiegel.de/panorama/bild-981813-726883.html

Some airlines had chosen to divert around the area but this was the choice of the individual airlines, the route was still approved

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/ukr...-money-n159161

This could very easily have been another airline.

Just reading or seeing any news of this tragedy makes me feel physically sick. I just hope those onboard were killed instantly and didn't face any of the horror of the plane breaking up Any loss of innocent life is tragic but 80 children onboard is absolutely horrific

Putin has these deaths on his hands, he backed the rebels and annexed a part of Ukraine. So when he comes on TV saying it's nothing to do with Russia and it's Ukraine's fault it makes my blood boil. The weapons systems the rebels have are Russian and controlled by Russian forces trained in their use. Putin gets away with whatever he wants as no one in the International community can doing anything to reign him in.

Putin can go **** himself and I hope he gets his just desserts one day.

I can't believe the timid reaction to this. So much disrespect for the dead and families. Photos of loved ones all over the Internet. Are the bodies still there.

And in answer to the 'problem' of it being rebel held territory then flood the ******* area with Ukrainian/International forces and overrun the place and take it back so the recovery of the dead can take place and the investigations to start. I can't believe it's just been left for the rebels to control the area, remove bodies and evidence and do whatever they like ad everyone stands back letting them do it.

The families of the victims of this terrorist act must be in absolute despair

Agreed again. I mean, if the bodies are still there, how long before vermin start eating them. Also shame on the BBC and ITV for censoring the crash scene footage. If you watch other news channels you will see the reality. Dead bodies, including children, just laid all over the scene, all controlled by a handful of Russian thugs.

Is there still no evidence or proof of which side fired the missile yet? What about the black box has that been recovered?

Shame on the BBC for showing some sort of respect for the dead ?

I don't need to see that thanks .
