Agreed, going out for a drink is supposed to be a social event and yet people get so pissed they barely know what's going on. I really can't see that as being sociable.

I decided I didn't want to waste anymore weekends nursing hangovers, so gave up drinking about five years ago. I still have the odd pint now and again, usually with a meal, but that's about it. I love waking up on a Suturday or Sunday morining with a clear head
My mates don't tend to give me any stick about it. But to be fair they're all at an age now where kids have arrived on the scene, so the days of any of them going out and getting p1ssed are long gone too

The key to drinking is knowing your limit, watching one of my best friends become an alcoholic was enough of a tonic to keep me on the straight and narrow, I also hate being drunk but I do like a drink, helps take the edge off the day, there's nothing quite like a pint to wash away cotton mouth after some hard graft or a whiskey / brandy after a meal.
Some people like my mate just can't stop until they drink themselves into a stupor, it's very sad to watch someone close p!ss their life away.
As mentioned above, it's this culture of getting wasted to have a good time that's the problem, when in fact one has a much better time if you just have 3/4 drinks over the course of an evening out and retire, unfortunately that knowledge only seems to come with age for the vast majority.
Everything in moderation.

I know one mate who don't drink, but I still asked him to come the Christmas party at work and said have orange juice or non alcohol beer.
His reply was,no is not much point me coming because I don't drink.
I got called a ******* pansy not long ago, because I didn't feel like going the pub and having a drink.
If your mates can't accept that you don't want drink, then it's their problem.have your own mind and do what YOU want to do.

Weird mates. While I do enjoy a pint, no one bats an eyelid if one/some of the group are not drinking (usually because they are driving or just TT).
Even if its a bit boring, can't you even go for the first hour?

I can't quite understand the attitude of nothing or full on getting wasted What's wrong with having 1-2 pints and enjoying it for what it is, a cold refreshing drink that as already mentioned leaves you feeling relaxed?
In this hot weather I find it great having dinner in the garden with a cold beer to wash it down. Nothing wrong with 1 pint of beer unless your body really can't tolerate any alcohol.

I have to drink alcohol-free beer now due to medication. I've lost weight with no real effort and don't miss out socially. Becks Blue and Bitburger Drive are lovely and cheaper to boot. Doesn't stop me having a laugh. I'm glad I've been forced down this route tbh.

Well I thought would still ask,as nobody else did.
Not sure of the reason why he don't drink? I know its nothing medical reasons.
Only thing I can think of he used to be a motorbike paramedic, and probably had deal with enough drunk people.
Never really bothered to ask why he don't drink.

Edited slightly but spot on Ditch, on a night out, not enough and you feel a **** whereas too much and you remove all doubt

Absolutely, I don't understand people who get hammered, drinking alcohol is nice and I enjoy it, love Real Ale (sat here drinking a bottle of Jennings Cocker hoop as I type) Wine, Malt Whiskey and a drop of Remi Martin XO, why people spoil it by falling over and face planting tarmac i'll never know.

Just drive, and then that's your excuse for not drinking??
Although , decent mates shouldn't have an issue if you choose not to drink.
I can't do anything in moderation, ever.
So for that reason, I rarely drink. And, living out in the sticks kinda had the advantage of having to drive everywhere or pay £50 in taxis.
However, when I do decide I'm off out for a drink, I usually drink far too much. And then regret it!
Thankfully that only happens 3/4 times a year.

I've never drank.
I had half a bottle of sherry at the age of three... thought it was coke.. that's another story. I remember it like yesterday. Now aged 40, never have a problem when out, all my friends know I don't drink, I'm normally the driver, my wife makes up for the drink I don't have lol and when she drinks its my lucky night
Running joke is I'm known as two lemonades on a night out lol
What does get me is the price of soft drinks. In Northampton last night a large lemonade with a splash of lime.. £3.20!!!!!!!
