Threads like this do no good for reputations. If people have grievances then it's best resolved behind closed doors IMO.
Excellent answer, enough said!

Paul doesn't do mapping, but he will arrange for a mapper to attend though.

Another vote for Bob Rawle! Top bloke and excellent mapper.

Ive only ever used 2 mappers (Bob and Andy F) and prefer Bob (nothing against Andy)

heard bad things about dynamite, don't think id recommend him to be honest

No mate she's bog standard, it's not just about the horses under the bonnet, it's the donkey behind the steering wheel or not as the case may be.

I think it would varie depending on who was available among the usual suspects. Or he would no doubt arrange according to your preference.

Long time ago, i mapped my own car via Apexi PFC, first the 2.0 engine and then the 2.5, it drove great, in fact it drove amazing, right until it cracked a piston ringland, but that is because i was a boost junky and ran stupid boost on the stock pistons

A lot of people laughed because i said i was going to try it, to be fair, its really not that hard once you learn your engines safe limits, if you push past them.... well your rolling the dice every time you play with the throttle.

Would i map another, hell yeah, i still have my laptop installed with all the gear, a wideband lambda in the man cave and mountains of printouts i kept to help with the jap/english translations, i would never map somebody else`s car though, i did offer to add some pops/bangs onto a mates map when coming down the gears, but he did not want to pay the extra fuel (even though its switchable on the aircon switch)

That reminds me, that i do recall one of the "good" mappers posted above contacting me for some help in installing the apexi software (that he sold me) as he had sold another one and couldn't help his customer out as he did not know how to do it (hence why i had a lot of research/paperwork)

I remember a mate taking his car to that scoobyclinic as it was running rough, they told him it was the ecu that was fried and he needed a whole new system + map, they were kind enough to give him his old ecu, which i fitted to my car and worked fine, i checked the map on it, it looked good, i then sent it onto another well known mapper who checked it out and sold it on to somebody else (then gave my mate some cash for it )

I don't like these threads with ''i've heard this'' and ''i've heard that''

Any advice should be down to personal experience rather than rumours.

There is an amazing amount of cloak and dagger in the Subaru world, wether it be tuning, mapping, re-builds.... even insurance.

I base my choices on what people have experienced themselves, not stories they have heard.

this subject is always worried me with mapping. I had my car mapped to run in a engine. when re mapped i was told it was lean and caused damaged to my engine and yes it did in 50 miles. I have booked in with another mapper with my wifes rally car and now I'm think will it be mapped for road or race as it will be high up the rev range. so what advise or instrution would be best to give to the mapper to make sure the car is mapped to the driving it will be doing ?? it is going on the rollers to be mapped and i have spent a small forture on the engine which really i dont want it to just go pop as it was mapped for road use. I have informed the mapper of the car purpose but now a little worried and it isn't duncan mapping it.

Couldn't agree more Moley.

There are too many people who have never even used Duncan putting their opinion in on this thread with a comment "From what I've heard". This can totally destroy an honest person or business.

Few posts above mine for instance:

Makes me mad. Destructive comment based on "what someone has heard on a grapevine or down the pub from a friend" with no personal experience and without knowing all of the story from both sides. Grr

That's bollox, the ecu in question was faulty, it dropped onto three cylinders when warm.

We reported this to the customer after mapping as it was found on road test, cold day, heaters on and the fault appeared, customer wanted a little time to decide what to do.

Sunday came, I decided in my own time and completely free of charge to take a look at the ecu, with a heat gun and a can of electrical freezer spray I soon located a faulty injector driver, swapped it out and fixed the ecu,

Thats why the ecu had NO faults when you got hold of it !!, we had fixed it free of charge.

Customer decided to upgrade to a different ecu as although repaired he was worried about future reliability issues.

Cheers

Well i have used this mapper, and my car was running seriously lean. At low cruising speeds the car was alomost undriveable. I was none the wiser at first and thought this was normal, but after a month or so i decided to get JGM to just check it over - i thought second opinion can't hurt. After Simon had tweaked it the car was completely different, a LOT smoother and more repsonsive.

I had my old classic mapped by Scoobyclinic a few years back now when they carried out a upgrade in power on my car and I must say top guys with good customer service and the car run sweet as a nut during my ownership if they were closer I would use them again no doubt but I'm going to try a open source map on my wrx sti and see how that goes. like with everything in life there are good experiences and bad experiences they happen to us all that's life it's not always romance and fairy tales lol.

totally agree with what people are saying about hear say but a lot of people don't have negative feedback as a coincidence do they?????

Certain individuals have limitations on what they can do, some are honest about this some are not.......FACT

if you want your car mapping/working on/buying parts etc..... do your research = does you no harm
