Was the fella in danger at one point and justified in thinking that he had to defend himself? Yes - absolutely.
Was the guy justified in getting out his firearm to defend himself? Absolutely
Is it hard to feel much sympathy for one of them being dead. Yes, under the circumstances.
Can we accept individuals playing judge, jury and executioner even for the worst of our society? No. That's where we have to draw the line.

Down with all tree hugging do-gooders, you are the reason why prisoners have playstations & televisions in their cells, & why prison is no longer a deterrant to these people, more of an inconvenience.
The woman got what she deserved.

Nothing to do with Sharia law, if someone broke into your house, scared the crap out of you, then injured you, you wouldn't want a bit of revenge? I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, its just how it is. Could you honestly say that you wouldn't feel the same?

As for wanting a bit of revenge, nope. When my old car got broken into I'd have done what was necessary to defend my property and I was angry that someone had done it, but I certainly didn't want to hunt out the perpetrator and exact revenge.
Life's to short for that crap and to say you'd hunt someone out and kill/torture them smacks of either Internet bull**** or the words of a troubled mind.

Wasn't my point, mention revenge killings and sharia law on hear and it turns into a good old fashioned Muslim bashing with people talkin how barbaric it is. Yet in this thread people are condoning revenge killings left right and centre.

There's revenge, where you go after someone who's wronged you entire days, weeks or months later, and do whatever it is you're going to do purely in cold blood (which I believe is what's sanctioned under Sharia), and there's chasing someone out of your house mere minutes or seconds after they were trying to beat the cr@p out of you (or actually doing it) and then inflicting some kind of harm on them in the heat of the moment, all the while when you might still be in fear of them returning in the immediate or near future to have another go or finish you off to silence you. Any fool can see the two aren't really the same thing.
He claimed they'd burgled his twice before (maybe entire days/weeks/months apart) and he made the conscious decision to give chase and shoot one of them twice, that's not a panic response, neither is this (see the quote below). That comment alone says a lot about the intent.
Greer told the reporter that he then pulled the woman’s body back toward his home. “I shot her twice, she best be dead.”

'Ang on, who is this 80 year old. Most 80 years olds I've seen need help to reach the bathroom. Who is this guy, Superhero Tyrone?
As for the morals of it. It's the USA, guns are rife and the intruders were especially stupid.
If it happened in the UK, I'd be a little more concerned. As gun totting pensioners can project force far beyond what their walking sticks can reach.
