Someone earlier mentioned it being used on 30mph roads. Not round here. 60mph and nationals including dual carriageways.

Also they relayed about 2 miles of perfectluly good tarmac that was no more than 6 months old with this crap and just outside luton a big hole has appeared not two weeks after it has been done

It's used on (some) 50mph roads around here.
I don't know how they decide which to ****-resurface and which to resurface.

Forgot to say as well that our street got done some time ago.
Notices put through doors telling residents not to park on the street (double-yellows as well, but no-one takes any notice. It's only when plod or an Undertaker puts the cones down on the double-yellows that anyone gets concerned about a fine).
No-one takes any notice so what happened - yes, they did one side of the street and left the other, complete with cars chipped etc.

2 weeks or so later plod puts down their no waiting cones, and the other side gets done.

About 2 months after that, the first side down is just about completely stripped of any surface (none that you could grip on anyway). Reason is probably because everyone parks on the other side, so 'our' side gets driven on by far the most.

Been like that all this year.

Question is - would you rather have surface dressing, or nothing at all? The budget will only stretch so far.

If you're worried about safety raise the concern with the councils highway department.

Some of the stone chippings will make it into the drainage network, which should be able to cope with a few chippings. A lot of the excess stone will end up in the verge and amongst the roadside vegetation (if there is any).

If you saw the costs associated with completing a full re-surfacing job (removal of surface course and sub base materials, replacement of those materials, and a new 100ml surface course) you would realise why councils don't always go down this route. This doesn't cover the cost of TM either which isn't cheap.

What I don't understand is that neighbouring herts seems to relay their roads completely differently and use nice smooth black tarmac.
