What I would like to know is how the press were present at his apartment when the police arrived to search it. Presumably the police must have leaked this information to the press. In what world is that right?

As I have said before it's a toss up in this country as to which group are the worst.... the media, the police or the politicians!

I hope Simon Cowell's next..

Can't stand the smug arrogant Ba$tard.

And if we're talking crimes against music, Stock, Aitken and Waterman should be given indefinite life sentences.

I spotted someone who looked like Cowell at a sheep in the Brecon Beacons recently. Could have been any Welsh bloke I suppose.

My sister-in-law teaches at a local primary school, at which one attending pupil's dad is a Simon Cowell impersonator. I feel sorry for the poor lass.

It seemed the Press where there, all set up, before the Police arrived (even had a Helicopter on station) -- somebody adding to a Pension Fund....

As much as I dislike Cliff, well his music more than anything. It's a ******* disgrace that this has happened in the manner it has.

Absolutely. This is non news until the police wish to arrest and charge him or anyone else for that matter.

So far this could be some trumped up **** making unfounded allegations or to put it simply bare lies and the media are all over it as if the bloke is guilty as charged.

The BBC news tonight was no better than the gutter papers with how they handled it and I do find it an utter ******* disgrace that any organisation can do untold damage to someone's reputation/life before any evidence has been found or any charges brought.

It should be illegal to report on any such investigation until that person is arrested and charged.

This 'story' is pure sensationalism by the press just to whip up a frenzy.

I hope he is found to be innocent not because i'm a fan (far from it) but so the press can be shown once more what a load of scum they are in trying to ruin people's lives.

Report arrests? What, all of them? That's either a lot of tip-offs or a full time job.

Is there a need to report arrests?

Is there a need to report charges? There's nothing to say that you can be charged with an offence and then found not guilty.

The CPS are often asked if a prosecution is in the public interest, so is reporting/leaking arrests also in the public interest? Or is the interest simply as Cliff is was a celeb? So far, there's not been an arrest, just speculation.

Didn't you say that about Jimmy Saville, and Rolf Harris, and Stuart Hall, oh and Max Clifford?

And Freddie Starr, Jim Davidson, Dave Lee Travis and William Roache! Innocent until proven guilty used to be a cornerstone of British justice. Seemingly the police and the press (and half of SN) are happy for that to go by the wayside.

I said arrested and charged so your edit in quoting me is the same thing so yes I could have said once charged.

Being charged surely indicates there is substance to the claims unless as ex plod you are claiming charging someone can be completely baseless? But I agree until actually convicted they shouldn't be destroyed by the press.

My point was that the press are blowing this up as if he has already been found guilty when in fact the police are simply investigating at the moment and it could all be a load of lies made up by some scumbag.

They could be hoping for maximum publicity to encourage more to come forward al la Jimmy.

Looks to me like a weak case.
