I've not done it, nor will I be doing it, and if you challenge me you'll either be ignored or told to "**** off", likely the latter.
This does not mean I'm against people taking part, go for it, some of the videos are amusing and very clever (Patrick Stewart, I'm looking at you), and I support you for donating to a worthy charity.
I *do* think MND / ALS is a worthy recipient to charity donations, and that has nothing to do with my refusal to participate.
I will NOT be bullied, forced, coerced, or shamed into taking part in something or donating to a specific charity, regardless of wether there seems to be some viral thing happening because of it. The same would be true if someone came up to me on the street and tried to get me to donate to something, or take part in something and then donate.
I donate to causes I feel strongly about, and who is to say that I have not already donated to MND / ALS. It's no-one's business except mine as to when and who I donate to.
If this does offend you, that's your prerogative, you are entitled to your own views, as am I to mine.

Although I only tell folk to **** off when they insist on reminding me I haven't done it yet - followed by unfriending them

For me it was a bit of harmless 'fun' for charity.
Yeah, it's a bit of a daft trend of the moment, but whether people have donated to ALS/MND or a charity of their choice, charities have been getting donations and coverage that they may not ordinarily have got otherwise, which surely is a good thing?
Good on you.
![Thumb](images/smilies/thumb.gif)
OK, people should be sincere to the cause and donate. But even if someone doesn't donate, and gets mere joy out of putting a vid/pic on the public domain, nothing wrong with it. At least putting them up made them happy and the ones who care for their existence. I don't think all the occasional show-offs have ADD or ICD. They do not put their new pics up every two minutes, even when they know everyone knows what they look like.
This society is generally very clandestine and a shy one, when it comes to highlighting achievements and even one's own face. Anyone exposing oneself with any excuse is a recipe for getting called "look at me!" attention seeker.

Good on the ones who had fun doing this ice bucket challenge and other challenges, and good on you posting your vids etc. If you donated for the cause as well as getting all wet, it's better, of course. But say if you ever jumped ten feet high on your trampoline and posted your video on internet just for fun, that will be fine as well. I'll be happy for you. Don't let miserable people get to you.
Having fun is surely a good thing as well.

I donate to the choice of my charities and I won't donate to every damn race for life. Never. Everyone and every problem is racing for life. I know where my money is going.
I'm on Facebook, but not an active participant there. None of my cyber-connections would bother nominating me for anything, because I don't talk to them there. My real life connections won't bother nominating me either, as they know it's never going to happen.

...I once bought a spark plug for a rickshaw driver in India because the cost would have meant he'd worked a week for nothing, he invited me for dinner at his place that he shared with mice and various other pests. when you see how some people live their whole lives it makes you realise how fortunate we are to even have a bucket of ice water to throw over ourselves. Think about it. ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

Just promise me that you won't buy a new mic for this man, when you go that way somewhere again.

I disagree with people putting pressure on other people to give, with their constant lamenting until their campaign runs out, and the ones who make others feel guilty for not giving. Giving should be a personal choice- not a pressure or show off to the society how generous you are! That's more pretentious and chunder causing 'look at me' exercise than posting your own video on line, doing silly stunts for a cause or no cause. I often see a competition among some donors as well. 'Mine is bigger than yours' is a pleasure seeking exercise from some in the field of donations as well. As long as the charity is benefitted, their foolishness will be well-utilised by them, no doubt.
That every two minute sponsor-this and sponsor-that is also a terrible begging practice.
We had a professor who brought in raffle tickets every so often for the charity she had started. We felt compelled to give her a pound each every time for silly whatever prices, because we needed our degrees from her and her chums. I stopped buying her raffle tickets regardless; just for the principle of it. She stopped liking me, but I still got my degree or I would have challenged the system. These sort of blackmails are unethical.
In my view.

It's probs a laugh for those involved, takes their mind away from life for 10mins lol.
I will not be participating though, it's a great charity and no doubt they are very thankful of all the donations.
I have my own special charities that me and the mrs help with donations, we don't get wet either

I'm not sure how much truth there is to what I heard, but I became under the impression that very little money raised goes into any research for that particular cause. Something like 7%.
With that in mind and for our own personal reasons, both my other half and I, did our challenge for Macmillan. It's something close to us, that we support and doing this was just a little extra donation.

I used to have direct debits set up for the RSPCA and NSPCC but cancelled the RSPCA because they seem to waste the money/use it unconstructively.
The NSPCC pissed me off hasselling me to increase my d/d all the time , so I told them if they weren't grateful for what I donate then they can cancel the whole damn thing . Not particularly impressed that they PAY companies to phone you and hassle you on their behalf.
I think local, independant charities are probably a wiser idea.

if you really want to do something for charity then go and feed some homeless people for a day/go and do the shopping for an elderly/disabled person/go and volunteer somewhere to help out for a day without a wage
i can really see how pouring ice water over your head is helping in the need..............
yet another social media face-book craze to get people noticed
why not take a selfie as that really helps people out aswell............
****ing mugs

This ice bucket challenge is a mugs game. I wonder how much of the donations will actually go to the charity? I bit the mobile providers are loving all this.

10 points for the camp screech.
I've been nominated and called a "boring bastård" for not conforming to the wãnk thing like I have to do it no matter what. ***** to that.
We helped my brother raise £2800 for cancer research and always donate don't need to chuck a bucket of water over my head

My word .. some stuck up people on here.
I'm not one for social trends but you can't argue with the 60 million (was it?) dollars raised because of this trend.
It's a bit of fun and I'll be honest, I didn't know what ALS was.. I thought it was ASL, when you talk to a 14 year old girl online at the risk of her being a 35 year old male ..

yeah that's great thank you.
So do we expect the CEO to be paid less than the CEO of a none charity Org? Always confuses me this, who is going to give up their time and life experience to become the CEO (a high pressure role) in a charity for free, or for less money? Charities are business, they pay high salaries for good people, who make them more money. In theory at the end of the day it goes to the people that matter rather than just shareholders.
From what I'm reading most of you are more offended by people having the cheek to "bully" you into doing something and out of pure defiance you'd rather just not do it.
I don't do trending Social media, I don't hate it, I just ignore it, but when they start doing things like this even if £100 where to be donated in total across the world, that's a good thing.
It's a really simple concept: Do it, don't do it.

Volunteer, run a sponsored 10k, donate some money to a charity of your choice.
Just don't be pressurized into doing something because everyone else is doing it. Especially when it is to do with charity.
Charity is 'your' choice and no ones else's.

I've been nominated.
....apparently.
If someone wants to tip a bucket of iced water on my head, they can feel free to do so.
Until then though.....
FWIW I've been given a nickname "the Assassin", seems that it maybe a bad idea to leave me in close vicinity of a weapon. This may have been a contributory factor in the lack of people willing to tip any water on me head
