Not as bad I thought it would be... £55+VAT labour rate isn't horrendous ! I'm sure you could've saved a few quid sourcing parts yourself but you asked them to do everything so can't really complain !

I feel for you jobe that is some serious mula in the first instance, then to get stung again for a failure that happened when your car was in there care.I am reading it but still puzzled why olley would treat a customer that had already spent a large amount of money like that is totally obscene.SJ.

The second part of the invoice is what should have been done or at least quoted/advised on first.

If you can't consume it, drive it or f**k it, then I'm not interested.

surely you cant be happy with a 10k bill for an engine rebuild and caliper refurb in the first place, thats at least double what it should be on a good day.

I don't think anyone that had spent that sum of money would of expected to be treated like that,i know i would not stand for it if it was me that's for sure, and you would have to be a complete idiot to pay the second cost of a build that let go when the car was in someone else's care.Anyone that would pay a bill for damages to there own car (pride and joy) that had been wrecked while in care of someone else please let me know as i want to do a couple of track days and was wondering if i can borrow your car.SJ.

16k is some serious money in terms of end product, more than the car would be worth..!

Cant believe you was willing to spend £12k on a engine build and brake refurb in the first place, Thats pretty much more then what a 2008 STi hatch is worth.
And the £16k that RCM want now could buy you that lovely forged 2010 WRX STi hatch in red thats for sale on here!!

if I took a car in for an oil change and a road test, and the big end went whilst in their possession, then thats not really a failing of the garage .

However if I was going in for a rebuild as hg's had gone then I would expect some kind of recommendation to change bearings crank and rods too. Thats what is strange about this

£1000 for a decat exhaust.

Also interested to know what is in the exhaust manifold fitting kit, since gaskests are inlcuded in the list of parts.

Anyone that has done big builds would understand mate, the amount of money that people spend on there cars will always be more then what the car is worth in the first place, but if we all thought about the money and how much the cost will be all of the time, all these project threads that we salivate over would not exist.SJ.

i agree but imagine what you could build for a 10k budget, more than a bloody near standard power car with refurbed original brakes id say.

Just had a look on RCM's site.

The fitting kit is gaskets and bolts. Charging twice for parts is bang out of order.

also id say if the car hadnt failed and you got charged 12k you should still be annoyed at being ripped off.
even 10k is laughable and you were willing to pay that.

All said and done, were they happy to rebuild a £10k engine after head gasket failure without sticking some £90 ACL bearings in there?. This I'm sure would only be done if the owner INSISTED he didn't want them replaced.

kind of my point banny, he's copped about 7k or r.c.m. tax.
same as all these companys i guess, all great until someone has a problem and true colours are shown, not saying r.c.m. are dodgy at all as most imprezas owners would never use them as they know they are ott expensive but i must say ive never heard a bad report on their workmanship.

it sounds like the god of all painters that once frequented this forum, until he turned out a crap job an ripped of a member.
