Yeah, according to the parts breakdown.

It's not right. It could be human error, it could be deliberate. Whatever the bill needs rectifying just on parts like that.

Can I ask the OP what the age and mileage of the car is? As surely if an experienced tuner was given a budget of 10k (mentioned by the OP) then they would have recommended part 2 of the bill at the beginning?

The invoices also show a lot of extras, brakes and hoses for example, which have eaten big chucks out of the budget. Were these recommended to you or were these your choice?

same as all these companys i guess, all great until someone has a problem and true colours are shown, not saying r.c.m. are dodgy at all as most imprezas owners would never use them as they know they are ott expensive but i must say ive never heard a bad report on their workmanship.

it sounds like the god of all painters that once frequented this forum, until he turned out a crap job an ripped of a member.

The age of the car is a 2008 and the milage was 50k and it was drove by a lady owner ia it was my mother in law who i bought the car from so was certainly not raged in it 50k life. Im glad people can see that he is charging me twice for the parts and yes i was new to the scooby way. I spent that money as i have a very well paid job and thought RCM are the best so they wont rip me off. So wrong i was. At no point was the big end mentiond to me as i would have certainly had that done in the 1st place. Most of the extras are what i asked for not what RCM recommended.

I'm shocked that RCM have charge 12k for a engine rebuild that doesn't have that much more power than stock.

did they tell you cost of parts etc before the build went ahead, to be fair you were happy to pay 10k and if the engine had worked this thread wouldnt exist.

didnt 10k sound excessive to rebuild a car engine to you??

Exactly this - Any builder that's half decent would advise to change bearings, rods etc. Why on earth they didn't advise on this prior to him forking out £10k is insane...perhaps they realised he has deep pockets...

Before this thread goes off on wild tangents in every direction, I'd just like to wish you the best of luck in your legal pursuit. It certainly seems they've smelled the money just dripping off you and have tried to take advantage in a most outrageous manner. Even if this is satisfactorily resolved, it'll have certainly knocked their reputation and I hope that others think twice before getting their wallets out.

I expect this thread will be deleted soon much like all the Cheshire performance ones.

they gave me a list of parts and i picked the ones i have but never thought it would go this far. As i said i told them time after time no more than 10k. I just hope people will read this and think twice before taking there car to them and getting work done. I would also say if anybody dose take there car there get it in writing exactly what they are doing and how much it is going to cost so this cant happen to anybody else.

When the engine went in my Blob STi, I had a quote from Engine Tuner and to be fair, it worked out slightly cheaper for what they had said but with me being me went for SimTek, S206 Turbo and ACT clutch... and some powder coating, FMIC fitting, Zunsport grille and the original Forged 2.1 I asked for but with a CDB. .. so that coat me just shy of £10k and got just under 500bhp !

The original quote was obviously higher, hence the £10k limit being put on it. I think the main thing here was to establish if the mains were discussed or not and according to the OP they weren't. Even so an engine has been built using the old big ends on a car that's had HG failure.

Should the clearances not have been plastidipped prior to the build? Also it's leaving things a little close to the wire to have the customer ready to collect before a test drive has taken place.

I bought a gasket set which didn't include several of the exhaust gaskets I needed which I had to buy separately.

The labour charge alone to refit the calipers & disks is outrageous , on top of the refurb price
That's 1K spent Wow it's making my head spin

I've had a quick look through the bill and I'm adding up over 5k without Vat.. Alone in upgrading parts, like twinscroll manifold, ceramic coating, rcm flywheel, ap clutch, ecutek.etc etc.. Nothing to do with the rebuild

You can't go and ask for upgrades and then cry about the overall bill... 6k of the bill is performance upgrade related... So it's not accurate to throw around the statement "a rebuild costing 12k" that's not true

well if you read what i have said. Not once have i said im not happy with the 12k. The ceramic coating and manifold was added with out my say so but that's another story. My problem is with the 3600k in parts alone for a problem that happened in there garage whilst they did the work on the car.

OK, SN kangaroo court dismissed before some peoples' mouths get them (or us) into trouble! Once the legal action has concluded if the OP wants to update the board to the outcome then they can contact the webteam. If RCM wish to respond, they can also contact the webteam and this will be allowed.

Until then having people put the boot in without hearing both sides of the story achieves nothing.

And before the usual culprits try and jump on board the "SN is protecting traders line". Last I checked, RCM does not have a traders account with SN and this thread is being locked, not deleted, so is still searchable!
