The reason for mounting mine where I did was based on ease of operation and visibility.
Whilst looking at, and even interacting with them as you can with a Toucan, gauges mounted close to your eye line when on the move could be construed as a distraction, looking at them when they are even further away can only be a greater distraction IMO.
If you need to look at specific values by highlighting gauges then the unit needs to be in easy reach. Furthermore if you are using the Toucan to select different maps then ease of access is perhaps more significant.
I agree that mounting in the centre console gives by far the best look, but if that's your motivation then I would question why you're fitting a Toucan at all. Form over function perhaps?

Fitting a toucan as it enables me to ditch 8 individual stand alone gauges in place for one.
The toucan does more and is safer as the ECU will control and monitor everything without me having to worry. My cals will still be adjusted using the rotary switch as I like how quick I can swap between them.
Just because something works doesn't mean it can be made to look good doing it.
So, like every part of my car, it's a balance of form and function for me.

Just to be clear Frayz, I wasn't having a dig. It was more of a generalisation about what the prime motivation for fitting a Toucan was.
One other thing. Have you actually used a Toucan 'in anger' as it were? If it's not clearly visible some of the smaller icons can be a bit fiddly to access, particularly if you have a set of fingers like elephant's feet
I frequently get the T/C maps up instead of the Syvecs Cal menu when switching maps, and my fingers are refined and well controlled

I tend to agree V2 unit would be good with slightly larger screen. Higher res would be good too.

It would only cover the battery, airbag and abs lights if I did that.
The airbags are no longer in the car, the abs is disconnected and the battery the toucan will display anyway.

Well I don't know for sure until I try it in practice. However I've spent a while in the car now trying different placements. My steering wheel is quite close as it's a deep dish item so allows good access around the side for me to touch the screen when needed. I also like how it keeps all the instruments in one place. Keeping the dash clear and the car focused.

The later Toucan firmware allows you to set up the CANbus definitions, and if you set the T/C "frame" definition to 0, it won't be shown
