I know we can't all be as great as you, and we all bow down to your super intelligence and whit (or lack of it normally), ..there are other areas how people get duped.

For example, as reported previously about parents buying parts for their sons/daughters etc, foe example, buying a heavily branded perfect replica set of wheel nuts from a Subaru Specialist lets use PMB PErformance/Turbo Monkeys in this instance), then how would someone who is not into the whole 'scene' and maybe quite elderly realise they are being scammed? Ok so the idea, not to use eBay say at all (which is almost impossible now as they come up in search engines for every item under the sun), but they could of quite easily walked into this companies premises where they are openly selling the counterfeits and bought them in person.

Scammers prey on everyone not just the gullible.

Its quite obvious who's selling knock off goods. For one there normally have the price, if you willing to take that risk, might be a knock off or a bargain. I go on ebay for bargains, when i want something really good i go else where unless i know the company on ebay well

if you have an ounce of intelligence you dont send paypal gifts to three post users.

Agree. There are some posts on here I have to read 3-4 times and I still haven't a clue what the poster is trying to say. I just don't understand how people have left school (assuming they have, of course) not being able to string a sentence together. It's not just the spelling, not even just the grammar; you can normally still understand what they are trying to say. Some posts are just double-Dutch to me.

Unfathomable.

I don't think its just Subaru, but mostly anything low-end performance. Japanese performance stuff seem to be the worse. But other stuff like the VW bug/T1/T2 van scene is also full of shysters.

Jaguars is a interesting scene....very few owners actually partake in any hands-on DIY. The forums lack of real proper tech know-all reflect this with the exception of a few acclaimed gods, which to be frank are questionable on certain issues with regard to their good rhetoric but lack of outright facts. ( "super enhanced" ECU anyone? No? Me neither LOL ). The breakers are real characters (especially on ebay), but there's a few good ones out there (black country jags being one - not cheap though)

The pandering to the American market always amuses me. One kit I've seen for sale:

A "Growler"

I laugh my **** off when I see a yank boasting about his new growler kit. The comical name itself is bad enough, but the product and price just make me laugh even more.

(Just incase anyone can't google, its actually an induction kit.....a 90degree steel tube with a copy/clone cone filter mounted on the end placed directly above the nice and toasty exhaust manifold )

Not to forget my old man was ripped off for over a grand by a shyster "jaguar trained" (un) professional (he did smash his face in though, so balance was restored to the world ).

Just Googled "Subaru scene" and guess what? - yes, this thread is on the first page of hits.

Talk about give a dog a bad name.
Problem is:
  • Subarus aren't dogs;
  • Neither is any SN member (or at least wouldn't want to be called such);
  • THIS part of the 'Subaru scene' has FAR FAR MORE positive, helpful posts than negative ones (Mods - stats would be nice but I've done a quick reccy of the past month);
  • Of the negative posts 'scammer' ones are in the minority (Most are about poor service of some sort, not about getting ripped off on here ie. receiving nothing for money handed over).
As a few posts have shown, scammers are everywhere.

But as US, PROPER ALL-IN-THE-SAME-BOAT SN Members show through the vast majority of threads, help, support and camaraderie are in abundance on THIS site.

So don't anyone say that the Subaru scene is full of it, because this site imo is THE Subaru site, making up a lot - if not the majority - of the 'Subaru scene'.

Talk about bringing SN into disrepute.

No that's kind of the point Welshman, there are not scammers everywhere which if you actually read my opening post you will see.

As for the rest of your post I feel asleep reading it so will try again in the morning when my boredom threshold is slightly higher.

PS Glad to see you've worked out how Google works

I wouldn't say the Subaru scene has more scammers than anywhere else, unfortunately scamming does happen all over the place.

What we do have on Scoobynet though is a lot more of the 'holier than thou' brigade.

I've been spending a lot more time on the MLR these days, and they have an equal amount of text talk posts/threads.
However, instead of members taking the ****, they actually seem to be nice to each other, and help answer questions without sarcasm (even if they seem stupid questions).

Maybe instead of knocking the 'lower classes' of whatever some describe them as, we should just make the effort to be nice.
It certainly only seems to be a Scoobynet thing, as I don't see it on local forums, or MLR/22B etc.

I wonder why it only seems to happen on here?

Give that man a clap. Well said.

A good start would be removing all those that aren't Subaru owners, they seem to the main riffraff

Doesn't happen on MBClub or Mercedes Owners Club either, mind you nor does scamming.

Stewart recently reiterated in policy that this forum is open to all: Subaru owners, ex Subaru owners and even those who have never and never will own a Subaru... so you are barking up the wrong tree there.

I've had a few problems with a couple of sellers on here in the past. These were for small
Items and now these sellers won't get my money ever again. There was a thread on one of these sellers the other day but I couldn't be bothered getting involved over a £40 item.

The information is there for everyone to use. The feedback system on here isn't great but it's at least an idea as to who to use and who not to. If I were looking to buy items of a large value I'd want to do it in person until I knew they were reliable.

I'm not sure about other marques but there seems to be a tendency for some owners on here to part with there money without doing a bit of research first.

Some of Scoobynets most helpful and respected members are ex-owners.

I am also an ex-owner, but neither of the above apply to me
