When I first brought it, I took him out at lunch and he said it's not as bad as he first thought, but he is such a strange person. It's not him that really is the issue, I can usually ignore him easy enough.
It's everyone else that aren't usually bellends who suddenly find the need to question my mode of transport!

Pack mentality, same as kids when they get bullied and their 'mates' join in.
The example you give about taking him out and him saying it's not that bad shows that. I know a guy just like this, he's got a big mouth when he's got an audience yet when you're on your own with him he's your best mate. It's basically a form of bullying he's displaying. I just lost it with him one day and offered him outside and he sh&t himself. Trouble is it slowly creeps back in, but any other decent person soon starts hating them anyway.

There are some extremely self-righteous people on here! FFS why jump to conclusions about whether someone is a chav or not over a bloody exhaust. Just because you, or for that matter, others may not like one doesn't preclude the entire adult driving population from having one. Same as it does not denote their social status. Put what you like on your car and enjoy it. If you want it quiet so be it, but bashing someone for wanting something different does not justify your own preferences.
I agree with being considerate to your neighbours as far as possible but the constant need to justify decisions to others is BS. You'll always get people making assumptions on how loud a car is, how boy racer it looks, how loud you listen to your music etc.
People always believe their opinion is the only correct one, therefore the people at work etc who question the noise will never understand no matter what answer you give. Just move on...

It has prodrive alloys (courtesy of the previous owner) which I think look better than the gold, but it's otherwise completely standard ... you know, how it was meant to be. I don't feel the need to f*ck around with it. If you want a faster car, buy one? There's plenty out there.
Of course you could just go and buy a faster car. But, like the chequebook tuners, where's the personal satisfaction in that? And I would further bet (daren't look actually) that I could have bought a road rocket ship with the amount I've spent on the Impreza.

And none of them are worth tuppence more than a stock one ... most will be probably be worth less. I could understand it if someone thought that their car was worth £?K more because it's got uprated suspension, brakes and various engine mods ... but ONLY if it came with all the original stuff as well. Replacing knackered shocks with better ones doesn't increase the value - it's just replacing shocks that are knackered. The value of the upgrade isn't carried into the car.
Mine's sitting here as an investment, I have zero interest in driving it. It's a cheap jap sh1tbox that I hope will appreciate in value while a lot of the badly modded ones are blowing up and getting broken.
So why didn't you? Then you'd have a rocket ship, and not an Impreza.

And if you think any car is an investment you're seriously kidding yourself. Unless you can stretch to a classic Ferrari or similar (which you plainly can't afford, or you would have one and wouldn't be on here) no car is an investment.
Your Impreza won't increase in value, not even 22bs do that. It will slowly deteriorate as it sits sadly in your garage, on your drive or in the road, rarely being driven.

So he has a loud exhaust, that means nothing. Lamborghini's have very loud exhausts too?
It would only make him obnoxious if he sat outside someones house and blasted his exhaust at their windows at 1am.

Xline and Urban are cute, I sense a bromance over quiet exhausts is on the cards.
Xline: "no way, yours is quieter"
Urban: "dont be silly, your exhaust is quieter"
Xline: "shut up and kiss me"
