Again there is the word chav.... does that apply to every Impreza owner? Or just the cheaper ones? Or just ones with roof scoops and what not?

Their image has changed and sadly the cheaper ones have fallen into the hands of the chav and that has tainted the brand.
If you have one and enjoy it carry on enjoying it and take no notice of what anyone else says is my advice. I am the same with my Merc, if people don't like it then so what?

AMGs have an image problem just as much as Scoobs, I am not saying any different. I love Scoobs don't get me wrong, but the fact is people no longer view them as a car to aspire to as they did a decade or more ago.

Strange thing 'facts'.
From Autocar:
"
Subaru (Stable: 2012 = 0.10 per cent; 2013 = 0.10 per cent)
Sales in the USA are soaring and will hit 400,000 this year – Subaru is building a US factory to meet demand. It makes you wonder if the piffling amount sold in the UK is really worth the effort."
Link is: http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/in...nd-losers-2013
(Subaru actually had a 12.26% increase in sales btw):http://cars.uk.msn.com/news/uk-car-s...-six-year-highAnd I'd suggest that FAR more people aspire to them than a decade ago.
After all, every boy wants one now - or perhaps they don't count as 'people'?

Subaru are selling well in the USA, but that doesn't mean everyone aspires to one. Far from it!
As to every boy wanting one I wouldn't know, but I suspect not!
Oh and you also get confused by percentages, 12.26% increase on very little is not a lot more than very little.
