As a rule I allow 10 mins or 10 miles for oil to reach peak temps, depending on the road ie motorway/ dual carriage = 10 miles. But that said my old P1 used to get upto 90c within 4 miles which I put down to the engine rebuild and tighter tolerances.

Motul 5W-40, Opie Oils.
AfaIk that's been the choice since Day 1.

Temp starts perking up (50 degrees +) after about a 2 mile drive in a 30 zone (ie. out of my set of caves), or after 5 mins or so stuck trying to get out of them .

Sit in the car and let it idle for about 2mins while I get my **** together, then drive slow/off boost for about 8-10mins, then slowly bring the turbo in to get some hot oil through it, and then when oil/water is upto full working temps I give it some if the opportunity arises!!

I've heard people say short journeys in performance cars isn't a good thing, is this true? I change the oil every 3-4k and take it out on 60mile+ trips a couple of times a month
Yes you should avoid driving your car at all costs.

You do realise that driving your car any journey longer that 4 miles, involves first driving 4 miles?

WTF?

There's one other important fact - driving a car while it's up to temp doesn't undo any nasties done by driving while it's not (apart from the battery getting recharged ).

I think what the op might be getting confused with is that using the car to its potential on short journeys is not advised.
