I do remember seeing Subaru rallying in the 90's and loved watching it. I suspect it was a 22B or similar I was watching then!

 

SN is looking at this IMO as just a car, there are rich people out there that would not have to think for one second about spending 45k. It's more than just a car, it's a collectors item and a rally icon, you value such items by what someone is willing to pay, not by saying "I could have a new bmw for that".

Any wow, as a Subaru enthusiasts I'm pleased to see any classic Subaru going up in price, never mind the god of all Subarus, the 22b, personally I won't be happy until I see them being sold for a 100k and more.

Has anyone seen the price of Mini's lately £6/7k and that's just the run of the mill circa 98/2000 model years, dread to think what a proper twin petrol tank Cooper is worth these days if you can find one for sale, I was having a little poke around to see what something like a 1275 GT would cost, just because I used to have one, couldn't find one for sale and stopped looking when I saw what modern ones were going for.

Won't be too long before the likes of Type R's and RA's are fetching £15k.

 

20-25 grand for an original cooper s.
Even seen a spotless, original low mileage mk1 golf gti with a £25k asking price.
I don't mind, have got a mk1 cabriolet tucked away in a garage and prices of these are on the up.

 

I saw a mint mk1 GTI, one owner car, FVWSH with around 20k on the clock for £25k. I genuinely think it is worth it too.

In many ways these cars often reflect the effort that the owner has put into keeping them in such good condition. People who love their cars refuse to part with them unless they are sufficiently compensated financially, and people who want them will compete with each other very strongly for the best examples.

In a reasonable time frame you'd expect most cars with something going for them would command some kind of premium, but obviously the very special models could be worth a fortune. The 22B is nowhere near the most capable or best performing Subaru ever made and arguably wasn't even the best version of the car out at the time, but it was the most special and captured the essence and excitement around Subaru's success in the WRC at the time (even if the 22B is a pretty poor relation to a WRC car).

I don't have a problem with a mint 22B being worth £40k+ but the car for sale here is not a particularly nice example imo. There are better cars out there for sure.

 

I knew someone who bought one of those brand new and used it every day for work and trips to the shops. Lovely car and very fast in their day.

It's worth remembering that although 3k seems cheap nowadays back then it was a lot on money to spend on a car, it was about the average price of a house in the UK and you could buy a brand new saloon car from Ford, Austin, Vauxhall etc for under 1k.

 

Yep, one of those would be in my dream garage (along with a 22b and a sport Quattro )
My dad very nearly bought a brand new lotus cortina. His mate reasoned with him that for the money he could buy a new BMW, so he bought . . . . A hill man minx
Lotus cortinas have been known to fetch nearly 80k now.

 

hind sight is a wonderful thing...........guess my P1 (with only 49,000 miles )will be worth £30K soon ?

 

I paid £20k for my 22B 2 years ago, at that time there were 3 or 4 for sale all around the same price. I'm guessing that's a thing of the past though.

 

well done my man ........doubt you'll lose any £££, I paid £21,500 for my P1 back in 2002 and spent another £30k+ on mods so far .
