I own a Spec D, Believe me, the fact it's more discreet looking doesn't stop them.

That's a hell of a nice looking car, don't know the garage - but don't they have to pay VAT on the sale?

Finally got the car, WOW! it goes. But,There is a problem with the engine, What i thought was a tappet, now transpires to be piston slap, which is strange on an engine that was so recently "forged" I have the sellers 3 months parts and labour warranty but does anyone know who the previous owner was and or who rebuilt the engine. Ive got masses of invoices for parts but none for labour, any help appreciated.

I've never run a car with upgraded forged pistons but i believe that they can be a bit noisy .

53, its got k sport callipers on the front and brembos on the back.
I was told a "forged" engine should be as virtually as quiet as a normal engine but i need to find out who had the car last,?

If it's forged you will get piston slap worse when it's cold but should quieten down once up to temperature

Should only have piston slap for the first 5 mins really whilst its cold. It should quieten down and sound normal after that. It not then something needs looking at.

I get no piston slap on mine at all, but its only done about 1200 miles on the forged lump so far.

it only makes the noise at tick over, but im going to get a second opinion. Ive listened too a standard engine and mine sounds like a diesel compared but as i said only at tick over. But it also has a slight misfire so replaced the spark plug and coil pack on number 4 but made no difference it also has this AVC type R controller thingy which was showing cyl 4 ? coincidence? had a quick look on the internet, blimey its hard to set up or understand, i think it controls boost pressure? It says making adjustment can seriously damage engine, getting out of my depth here.

My forged motor is definitely noisier than standard, it also depends on what pistons are used, sometimes mine is like a choo choo train lol and a little tappy when cold but quietens down when up to temperature

I had already put on a deposit before i first posted here, but yes i will take it back, its a cracking car so would rather they payed to fix it. But if the worst comes to the worst i will get all my money back plus expenses because car was not fit for purpose, and my niece is a solicitor and well knows the sale of goods act. But maybe im painting a black picture here, i haven't even told the garage yet. I have told them im posting here so maybe they will want to keep a good reputation with the scooby crowd?

Forged pistons can be noisy and the engine can use a bit of oil. It's not the end if the world. Get a full check done at a reputable Subaru specialist. Get a compression check done.

Maz, I've had as much done as i can without taking engine out, but all the compressions were good, but i was told you can have good compressions and still have piston slap but will get a report from another specialist and then see what cheshire performance have to say.
Thanks scoobygaz 1

Welcome to the site
Word of advice. The owner of Cheshire/Clive's Performance is/was a member on here, so watch what your posting before you even contact them.
Give them a ring first thing in the morning. Tell them what the problems are and see what they say. If your not happy with their response take it to another garage (Subaru if poss) and see what they say. Failing that if there's a local member on here that knows their stuff, ask them to have a look/listen. See what they say.

Hope its nothing serious and it all gets sorted in your favour

Injectors on Imprezas can make a tippety-tappety noise.

But forged engines can slap too.

Either way, you can't say you went in on this one any other than eyes wide open let's hope they can put your mind at rest.

Im sure it will all be sorted in the end one way or the other, there is no doubt that the car is not fit for purpose, but i hope they will fix it, but if not they don't leave me much option but to ask for my money back.

I bought a death trap of a car off them just over two months ago and it's pretty much been off the road the whole time. Ive got my three months warranty but they will not help untill I take the car back to them over 100miles away, they know the car is unsafe to drive. I can't say anymore than that on here but I will just say I've applied to the courts.

cant believe another car from them has got running issues, if I had shelled out 12-13k or what ever you have done the car would be taken straight back.. why are you fannying around getting all sorts of checks done and at your expense?.. take it back and get it sorted.. or get a refund. the car should be as described, not one with issues. they are supposed to have on site mechanics who know there way around imprezas.. as above though, you were told to steer clear, anyone else planning to give them their well earned?

Well its really bad they treat customers as they do, because in the long term they are only getting a bad rep. I live nearly 250 miles away from them and i did say to them that if i did claim it wasn't reasonable that i should bring the car back and they accepted it would have to be repaired near me. I hope i have better luck than you.

I hope you do aswell mate but their reputation only seems to be heading 1 way. Get in contact with them 1st thing in the morning and make records of every conversation that you have with them in case it does start to go sour.

They told me that they would fix the car near me too, but that's not the case now they have took my money. Apparently their repairs are not the best, take weeks to sort and still problems.
Good luck tho.
