I think I'm edging towards a r34 gtr v spec but I think maybe it's best to take a r35 and r34 for a test drive and go from there, I also like the v8 m3 as there are a few supercharged ones about

Bit of a pointless thread to be honest, why start a thread with I got £40k to blow on a car what should I buy, when you had already made your mind up anyway(Nissan R34 GTR)
Think it was one of those threads to tell everyone you have/or going to have £40k and this is what im going to buy/do kind of threads!!!
Get the car first, post some pics up, and then rub everyone's nose in it!! As 9/10 when I see threads like this I think what a dreamer!!!
Good luck anyway and look forward to the pictures!!!

Lovely but I'm not sure I'd want 40k in a 14 year old car - maybe 30k with 10k in my pocket for potential repairs although I would guess 10k won't go very far on an R34.

While my heart would say r34 my head would say r35 hands down
There's 15years of tech difference, the gtr for me is the ultimate car, can be used daily without too much trouble, the running costs are on par with any car of its performance.
Just don't buy the silver one, its a special silver pigment that's a fortune to paint.

People keep saying Gt-R's for 40k you want something that can dance round corners that has a engine that can sing, not some big daft power house thats all about numbers and nothing else.

What a GT-R for 40k i could do better than a 15 year old power badge or a R35.
POWER, i want POWER
p.s yes thank you, not owned one but have owned a couple of rx7 instead.
The reason i like powerful jap cars with 4wd, ie subaru is because they are cheap and can be used as a good everyday car unlike a GT-R.

I saw an advert on Pistonheads earlier today for an RS6 with 700+ bhp, think that's up for £28k, that's an interesting machine if there ever was one.
OP is in a nice position if he's got £40k to spend on any performance car that takes his fancy. But it's a bit like asking what you should buy to eat with the tenner in your pocket. You could buy anything from ice cream to a roast meal down the carvery.

a lot of people have mentioned running costs.... and someone i knwo who had a nismo r34 remarked that you need deep pockets to run one of those... and this is coming from someone who definitely has deeper pockets than most!

I quite like this one.

Not sure I would actually by this particular one but it does look nice, my thinking would be to buy a car I could enjoy and not lose any of my £40k, I would also leave a little in the pot for any problems that may arise.

The money is coming from a medical negligent case, I have also been looking at the nobels as there very nice cars the car will only be a weekend car as my subaru is now, I do like the gtrs aswell and I understand it's hard to say what car to get I will making that choice but though I would ask people's opinions as to what car they would get given the opportunity not to rub it in anybody's face

I would look at a 360 ferrari, some are just under 40k, but I don't think I could part with that amount of money for a car unless I had everything else I wanted first

That's the thing I have everything else and 40k is only a small percentage of what I would be getting so I have budgeted well with the money that I'm getting to get myself a nice car it's not everyday I would get the chance so now the chance has come along I'm going to take it but appriciate everybody's opinions
