Its the passenger side rear quarter panel, he said a shopping trolley had had the side and dented it and was repaired but from what ive read the ripple is caused when the metal is stretched. Can a bodyshop fix this?

can be filled in, rear wing is alot worse/more expensive than a front wing though. Only real way to tell would be to get a decent body shop to look at it.

If this all looks OK however and If it looks good from the inside then personally I wouldn't be too worried as chances are it will be repairable, plus gives you something to haggle over..

I'd get the jack out and get a torch in there to inspect the inner rear quarter, will be easy to tell if the damage was superficial as should look more or less untouched from the inside, depending on where the ripple is you may be able to see it, handy its on the passenger side as you can do this without having to pull panels off. Also double check the fit of the boot and bumper, and get under the car with that torch and check condition of the rear panel and bumper bar, if these look fresher than everything else then it may lead to the damage being more than a trolley hit.

He has already said when i viewed the 1st time there will be no negotiation on price, its £6750 or he is keeping it, he says his is the best in the country by far. I did have a look in the boot and seems fine in there but didnt look under it at the inner quarter panel. apart from that id say it was more or less mint.
at £6750 its not gonna be anywhere near the best in the country lol

Have to agree with Tidgy, for that money you'll struggle to find a "mint" one and with the age of these cars the need for paint is to be expected really unless it's a totally fresh import. My V3 Type R isn't in the "mint" category and will need a full respray and a new front valance before it goes back on the road, I did consider selling it recently but have since changed my mind, Nice to see they are going up in value as I predicted, I really don't think it's going to be long before these cars are fetching £15k maybe as little as 5 years from now.

A very interesting thread.
I bought mine 7 years ago with a genuine 16k imported into the UK from new, it's never seen a winter in its life and it never will in my hands
I've turned down very good offers over the past few years so proves that people will dig deep for the right car.
It's only on 29k now and as never had any paint work whatsoever so I can only assume it's been a good investment so far.
Good ones are hard to find and prices for the best cars will climb IMO.
Buy the best you can is my advice.

It is proving to be a difficult search, I dont agree with many valuations, I don't mind paying good money for a car that is in better than good condition, but prices seem to be inflated at the moment for cars I don't think warrant the premium, maybe I'm being a bit unrealistic but feel my budget should buy something very good with some choice modifications

Yes you should be able to find a good car for your budget but they just don't pop up anywhere as often as they used to so you have to play the patients game.
The key is having everything in place and be ready to pounce when the right car for you appears.
Good luck

If your thinking of selling your Type R's or newage JDM's I think now is the best time as the prices have never been so good, and if you are a buyer, then unlucky your going to be paying through the nose for one of these models!!!

Nothing under £30k could be a worthy replacement for this car!!

I'm surprised that so many people are after a clean type r and i had mine on sale for over a month and no takers and then 3 offers in 2 days, i think people some times can be to picky and pass on good cars, you will see these type r's dry up very soon not many around even in japan and the same picky people will be buying battered ones.

Sign of the times guys, I have been saying for some time that these cars are going to start rising in value. Hell even my humble Blob WRX Wagon has held it's money over the past 3 years and 20k miles.
I think the reason is simple, what car can you buy that does everything one of these can do for less than £20k answer NOTHING. Even when you up your budget your looking at something into £30/40k secondhand and as for new cars you'll need an RS4 or RS6 to leave my £4k Blob Wagon, no matter how you slice it Subaru's are the performance bargain of the millennium.

It won't be long. 2 Years ago I was watching a lot of Type R prices. 2 local to me were up for £5k, and contacting both sellers over a period of time because neither were selling, the prices dropped lower and lower.
One was owned by a Mercedes mechanic who's Mum works at my place, he kept showing up every Saturday trying to talk me into buying it. He had a reputation for being a boy racer, the arches weren't great and a hand made manual boost controller was in the glove box lol. Eventually I talked him down to £2.5k .
The other eventually sold, but only after the seller offered it for spares as the bottom end had gone.
I think I bought at the very bottom of prices.
