There are not many sports were the away fans are escorted in their coaches direct to the home ground by police in riot vans. They are then put in a restricted area inside the ground, surrounded by stewards and more police, then at the end are escorted away

Right, but is this really down to football, or is it just that guys of that age and background like to get together in a mob and have something - anything - to chant (or get into a scrap) about? Assume for a minute the world went ahead and did what F1 is asking for here, which is to ban football (a completely nonsensical idea which is never going to happen, and we all know it), how long would it be before something else comes along and takes its place, with exactly the same kind of supporters?

You've repeatedly said throughout this thread that you believe there's something fundamentally wrong with the sport and the whole culture that surrounds it, and in your opening post you say outright you think it should be banned entirely. How is that not tarring everybody with the same brush?

I saw this in the news just earlier:
Al-Shabab massacres non-Muslims at Kenya quarry

Now explain to me again. In what way exactly would my demanding that Islam immediately be banned on the back of this be any different from your demanding that football be banned?

As long as the cash is rolling in they don't give two hoots. FIFA is a corrupt autocracy that has coffers bursting at the seams. It wields enormous political power and influence. With an entity like that right at the top there's not much hope for the lower divisions.

When you explain to me why it does not happen in the US or Aus then we can continue, until then your argument is null and void! Now I'm a busy man and have little time for people I consider of little worth so forgive me if I get back to work!

PS Much if the time on here most people are calling for Islam to be banned so your comparison, as crass and ill informed as it is, is quite amusing!

I was watching "World's Most Shocking" on Pick TV last night and watched the fans of a Championship-Winning Lakers side go on full riot mode out on the streets. They destroyed a cab (driver was in it) and then firebombed it after he managed to flee. Couldn't help but wonder if they'd got the scoreline wrong on account of all the Budweiser. MLS Soccer is way down the pecking order in the USA too remember. They have violence outside of games for the major sports there, it's just never been on the scale it has been in Europe. The Hooligan element has always been about another agenda, be it race, sexual preference, a inner desire to "get your gun off". The football has just been an excuse to get amongst and subsequently get noticed in a crowd, make a name for yourself (or nick someone else's in the case of Manchester City's Blazing Squad). It didn't always used to be that way. I watched a BBC3 programme about young hooligans and they are all from the same stereotypical backgrounds. The leader of Man City's mob was jobless, yet was stacked like a Blue Whale and travelled by train, can in hand, to matches to ruck with rival fans. Didn't talk much about Man City funnily enough! Was a young Father too. He hung out at a boxing club, so why not stick to boxing? Simple, he's being paid to fight by organised Criminals placing bets (like Gypsy boxing fights) on the outcome of these fights. There's way more to it than football. There is a religious element to the Old Firm issues up in Scotland and in Spain. I mean how daft is it that Neil Lennon gets death threats whilst being charge at Celtic because he's from Ireland? He's just there to do a good job. Which he did tbh.

I'd love to go abroad and watch Spurs play but I'm not prepared to get stabbed for it when a Fascist sector of a team's fanbase decides I'm Jewish, therefore in need of stabbing. It would have nothing to do with Spurs other than the badge being synonymous with Jews in London. The irony of that being Arsenal having a larger Jewish fanbase! Go figure. Even in this year's Europa League games there have been Anti-Semetic issues at Partizan Belgrade. Dealt with by fines and a partial closing of stafium at next game. FIFA/UEFA could have booted them out o the competition. They didn't. They don't want to deal with it. Bad headlines are still headlines. Exposure means prominent advertising, means investment, means fat cats stay fat.

My Uncle (prior to Death) was witness to Crowd trouble in Holland during a Feyenoord match and the Dutch Police absolutely battered the Spurs fans despite Feyennord extremists throwing seats/missiles at them. Holland's the last place I'd expect to have trouble but there you go.

It's one of those problem trends that will either die out of its own accord or move on and affect something more upper crust like Polo before anything gets done about it. I wish it wasn't around but I enjoy football too much to prevent me from considering going to matches. I just have to weigh up if certain juices are worth the squeeze. I'll also be very careful where to wear that Spurs shirt! Ridicule I can handle. Getting blood out of a white shirt though is a nightmare

Technically known in the game as playing the man instead of the ball, I believe, or an alternative interpretation might be head-up-one's-bottom syndrome.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, either way.

Have a look on Google for the full scale riots after a major Ice Hockey final or World series of baseball that have occured in recent years.

You've reverted to slagging people off because they dont agree with you, again... and for that reason all your arguments are moot

Good post, I still remember my dad taking me to my first big match at the Lane and everything you say about the anticipation is true, I remember walking down White Hart Lane turning the corner onto the High Road and seeing the floodlights for the first time, exciting times for a young lad

I also remember a dust up on the terraces that day, loooking down from the main stand seeing a Cuban heel cartwheeling through the air into the crowd, 30 seconds later it was launched back from whence it came, it didn't inspire me to become a hooligan, not at the age of 7.....

You're doing the usual. Ignoring the fact I've been called childish, petty, a fool etc. because your 'mates' with the same opinion as you on football posted the comments and picked on me because I don't share your opinion. Very balanced and intelligent I am sure!

Who remembers back in the late 70s a dart was thrown, and in the papers the next day a photo of a poor bloke with it firmly embedded in his nose, IIRC.

It started a copycat 'craze', IIRC.

I remember my father taking me to my first game at Home Park (the mighty Plymouth Argyle) and all the buzz and excitement of a three thousand strong crowd and a pasty and Oxo at half-time. Highlight of my Argyle days were the semi-final of the FA Cup against Watford at Villa Park (not bad for a third division club), beating Bristol City to win promotion with thirty-odd thousand squeezed in to the ground, old Wembly in the play-off finals, getting the Exeter City Sly-Crew on their toes on their home turf and my day as the club mascot. Great memories. I was fortunate enough to play for the club as a junior, too, but lost out on YTS papers after a serious back injury. Green Army!!!

It all kicked off on the terraces at Leicester Tigers match last Saturday.

Two opposing supporters, standing next to each other, had a disagreement over how chocolatey the hot chocolate was (or wasn't).

Was frightening stuff, I can tell you.

Meanwhile on the pitch, normal service was resumed with a couple of eye gouges and a stamped-on head.

FPMSL

You need to turn all of those points around then your post would be more realistic.

Actually you're doing your usual. classic deflection

You are to anti football what Jack Clark is to Apple, you keep trotting out the same old lines and no one gives a **** what you think.

Yep I am anti football and anti football fans that can't see the problem. That's you btw!

As for you thinking no one gives a **** you seem to be confusing your personal opinion with fact. A classic case of someone who thinks he is way more important than he is.

Now run along and tune into your silly little game as I believe some of the overpaid w4nkers are playing tonight. If your team are playing here's hoping they lose... badly! Maybe you can go out and throw darts at a few people later if that is the case

Funkii don't rise to it, you know F1 is the only one who can hurl the insults on Scoobynet but if anyone does it to him he goes off crying.

He's an utter bellend just looking to get a rise out of football fans by slagging them off, again. As for his claims all involved with football are stupid just reflects on his own apparent low IQ.

I'm sure the rules on Scoobynet include not posting inflamatory threads which slagging off the World's most popular sport and calling all those involved stupid most certainly is. Perhaps another ban is overdue.

Well instead of bellyaching like a whining child hit the RTM button and make your case then!

This thread is quite legitimate. I don't like a sport that promotes tribalism and violence as part of its culture and feel anyone who makes excuses for that aspect of it is a moron! Hard to argue against really!

I watch the odd game but don't follow or support any team, TBH I find the vast majority of it quite boring these days hence not really watching anymore. This past year I have watched maybe 30 mins total of a Man U game while I was in a bar, didn't see anything that would make me want to bother doing so again.

Don't get why people get so wound up about it and want to kick each others heads in though, I can't see a problem with the violence TBH, if I were in charge I'd just let all those that want to fight go on the pitch and kick the crap out of each other, I think that would solve the problem as they'd all eventually be dead.
