True, but decent ones are better balanced. My missus has an mx5, which is probably more fun to drive than the scoob with a lot less power, but it has none of the electronics either.
That said, technically, because of the place that the engine is located, it is actually mid engine rear wheel drive (engine between the wheelbase).

And before anyone brings up the fact that I laughed off the fact an mg tf could out handle an STI, I said the mazda is more fun, not quicker.

Haven't got round to watching vids yet but i will, thanks.
The reason i want a fwd is im not really into the car meet scene anymore, most my friends grew out of it so to speak. I don't go anywhere nowdays to appreciate the scooby, just the odd motorway dual carriageway but mainly just a few miles round normal roads to friends houses. I can't live without a bit of poke though. That's why i think the scirocco 2.0 gt fsi would be a good choice. If they're reliable? The one i went to buy had an engine management light on.the seller is in the process of having it repaired but thats already a put off. Bear in mind its £8495 with 64000 the next cheapest i can find with that mileage is £10,500

That's what i want,a fun car for the average person to buzz about in! Well maybe just a little more than average

If anyone has any links for a dc5 engine car for sale,i wouldn't mind at look at a few ads please. Preferably car needs to be newer than my already 04 and really i want lowish milage, don't really want more than 60000miles (would like less). Am I asking too much? I have 6k cash + 2k I'm borrowing from father untill i sell my car and pay him back. My cars worth 5k private or hopefully 4k p/x. If i p/x mine then i dont want to borrow 2k really but
If the car was worth the extra my dad would still lend me it for longer but then i would be skint and in 2k debt.
So suppose if i spend 8k I'll have 2k pocket money once cars sold. If i p/x car fullly and spend 10k I'll have no money left and if i want a 12k car, then I'll be in debt

Old Renaults will test your mechanical skill to the max! I stopped buying after a handful of 1.8 16vs & a Williams, rusty, electrical gremlins, gearbox woes and just general unreliability.

One of them (my last one) was on the road about a week in a year. After one thing got fixed then another broke etc. Never ever buying a French car again after about 10 years owning them. Williams did not give gearbox problems and I hear the diff issues were sorted in 172's.

But they do handle like a dream, proper drivers cars and they make a lovely sound for a 4 pot. I had more fun in FWD Renaults than I do in my STi.

I was in the passenger seat of my mates old astra gte and was racing behind a mr2 turbo down a road where everyone used to meet for that kind of thing. Anyway the road was a little greasy and the mr2 threw it in 3rd gear, the car went sideways and he ended up through a metal wire fence on the side of the road.dangerous!

I don't know anything about these dc5's/Honda's etc but would love to have one. I've known a few people who have had them though and they've always spoken highly of them as have people here.

I'm sorry it won't. I have had a MG for years and on my second STI, the MG is good fun to drive but it's nowhere near as quick as a STI.

I'm just not into these cars that have all manner of electronics to keep them on the road, I hate cars with traction control, that Megan with the wheel braking system would drive me nuts, I guess these cars are for the playstation generation what ever happened to left foot braking.

Watch the video "under the skin of the RS" I've put up on the previous page, some very clever but simple physics going on (mechanical )

Not sure these hot fwd are relying on elec aids any more than new BMW'S etc.

Owned a dc5 for 2 years and used quite a bit as only car but you can spoil them quite easy suspension wise on our pot holed roads been out in a FD2 not worth extra money IMO driven loads of evos up to 400 bhp owned blob sti for 2 years but for me the Megan rs is leagues above Ford st owned a rs250 mapped to 300 for 2 years and if I didn't have my hawk sti as a toy I would buy another tomorrow still miss it truly a fantastic car in every way so my advice would be push that little more for one of these sorry but the de5 is a good car and fun but the Megan different machine and don't forget they have a twin scroll turbo put your footdown and they are gone instantly

would go for a nice Golf GTI/A3 S line. The 2.0T engine is great, pretty quick, torquey and over the past 2.5 years my Mrs A3 has seen 30mpg combined. Nice a comfy, lots of toys and weve not had 1 bit of trouble with ours. Apart from the cambelt service - £600, all other servicing has been v reasonable. Seem to hold there value pretty well also

Ouch £600. Think the tsi engine in the scirocco im looking at uses chain not belt,so hopefully won't have that cost.unless tensioners etc need doing and cost that much?
Do you think audi is better than vw or the same?

Cambelt and water pump change was £312 at a specialist but we had it serviced aswell hence the total of £600

I prefer the A3s to Golf mainly because I think the interior and dash is more pleasing to the eye. Our one has black leather with the black styling pack and tbh we love it. My 9 year old daughter has named it Darth lol

I do however think the 5 door Golf looks better than the 5 door A3 if that's what youre after.

I can only go on personal experience - its a great all rounder that ticks all the boxes for a good daily car, has lots of toys (ours has BOSE/6CD, heated seats, Auto everything, MFSW, and the upgraded alloys/black styling pack), is quick enough to keep me entertained (remap is only £250 giving 40bhp/60lb/ft) and is pretty cheap to run. Good choice out there aswell. They'd be worse cars you could spend you hard earned on

I watched all the vids before commenting and still not impressed, I'm old school RWD which is what I grew up with, IMO if you want a fun car it has to be RWD, not a big fan of FWD but it does have it's place, I used to love Fiesta XR2's and PUG 205's.

If i owned a rwd,I'd be getting the back out everywhere i went and getting myself in trouble and through lots of rear tyres lol.the temptation of having fun would be too great.

Yes no problems in a lot of ways the rs is better than the Scooby but I love the flat four engine and I sold my last Scooby to early and I have always liked the look of the hawks so I bought a show car that was on here for sale back along as my toy and a c3 diesel as the roundabout make no mistake the rs is a fantastic bit of kit and if I was richer I woold have both cars my wife also loved the rs over all others drive a de5 then take out the rs leagues apart mate

The reason I loved XR2's is they were cheap and easy to sort and my cousin was a ford mechanic, so I'd do the simple stuff and bung him a couple of hundred quid to do the valves and a few other little tweaks and they'd handle and go like the clappers, punched well above their weight and never let me down, I had 4 of them and always made a bit too when I sold them on, fond memories.

205's and my personal fave the 309 gti were great when running properly but had a few issues that weren't cheap to fix.

the megane whilst a very good handling car isn't that great in a straight line, just doesn't feel fast, when I had mine the economy was only slightly better than my old 400bhp evo 8

If you want more grown up why don't you try the bm route?

2005 Audi A2 TDI, looks a bugger but 80-90 rural mpg after a remap and a sub 10sec 0-60.

110bhp from a 1.4l 3 pot diesel!

Not sure if his mates are laughing with him or at him but it sounds well.

Quick Reply: 8k budget new car???
