What some of you guys are not focussing on is the fact this poor guy had his house broken into, to retrieve the keys, presumably whilst he was in the house.

It's happened to me (7yrs ago a cheeky **** broke in my house, middle of the day whilst I was upstairs - I didn't even know about it, until I heard the car start up) and believe me, it isn't a nice thought! It has basically stopped me from buying a "performance car" as my main driver, kept on the driveway.

I didn't give a **** about the car (and it was brand new!). I was more worried about the fact that I would of bust him up if I had got hold of him, or what could have happened if it was my mrs in the house on her own.

I know of at least one individual that had his M3 nicked from his house. They knocked the front door and effectively rushed the guy and filled him in big style (I mean proper - baseball bats the lot!).

Suffice to say I have several hammers around the house now!!

If they're going to pinch a £30k car, they may actually be prepared to do that!

I'd rather they took the piece of metal outside my window than my wife have to explain to my 2 daughters why I'm laying in a pool of blood on the landing.

A big guard dog stops scumbags coming in. That's 1 thing the thiefs don't do.

I shared that sentiment. The exact circumstances made it clear to me that this option was very much on the table for them.

I have a 50kg Rhodesian Ridgeback (aka Afrikaner Liondog) he was awake barking and waiting as they started breaking in.

They still came in and took the keys!

The dog free to wander the house. The keys on the kitchen table under my wallet full of cards and cash. The wallet is still in the house full of money.

The thoughts of the police are the 6 men outside my house just b4 the deed were most likely from one of the gangs famous in Brum for the murder of two teenagers not so long ago.

The car is very much replaceable. My Dog and wife not.

2004 C5 RS6. He done both me and the wife proud. He made lots of noise and stood between where we were and the gang members and growled barked and protected us. I'm confident he would have attacked if we were confronted.

It's suspected the car is for a getaway car. As I mentioned earlier these were organised pro's. The dog or me half dressed with a baseball bat were no deterant. I'm a soldier of 21yrs and I'm afraid this was one skirmish I wasn't up for!
To leave a wallet full of cash which was on top of the keys tells you all you need to know about them.

This is the bad thing about having your own driveway, the thieves know exactly where the keys are. At least when it's out on the street/parking bays etc they don't know where to look.

Whether they'd lie in wait for you so they can carry out a carjacking is another matter...

Scary stuff that's for sure. If the criminals are brave enough to walk into your house while you're there awake with an aggressive dog by your side it makes you wonder how far they would go if needed. All this for a 10 year old Audi !!!!!
If a gang broke into my house while my wife and small daughter were in bed then I'd gladly give them the car, heck I'd even warm it up and defrost the screen if that's what they wanted.
The problem is these criminals aren't scared of the punishment if they get caught. What would happen, maybe a couple of years inside at best. Most have already done a bit of time so aren't scared of going away.
Now if the punishment for breaking and entering was a beheading then it would take a pretty stupid criminal to even attempt it.

Glad you and your wife are ok, could easily of turned out worse if you had attempted to stop them. It's only a car and these are the reasons we have insurance

Well that justifies my tracker subscription..!!

Glad it’s been found, that’s why I have always hidden my keys for the Scooby, my Mrs car and the ranger, every night they are put in a safe place out of sight..

Just curious, say if a criminal broke into your house and you almost beat him/ her to death. Would you get in trouble from the police for defending your home.

reasonable force, what the hell is that. If someone breaks into your house, you should be allowed any methods of defence as you wish. I remembered once in the news that once guy killed a burglar with a baseball bat and then got sentenced to prison for it. Bit unfair.

If they knicked it for joy ridding most likely. But for the amount of time they had it for, and guessing they were looking to resale, most get shipped aborad.

Wonder where he'd stand if 2 weeks down the road the engine let's go because of damage caused to the engine. You know those thieves didn't poodle around at 30mph, car would of no doubt been driven on the very limit bouncing off the limiter.

I was once. I escaped the triangle in 2012.

A quick update. My tracker was activated by my insurance company today and the car recovered within 2hrs.

Delighted it's coming home. A little apprehensive that it will sit on the drive again awaiting more unwanted attention.

It has on the plus side been interesting getting updates from a thoroughly helpful CID officer who was investigating the case.
Although I probably haven't always appreciated it before this happened to me; It's been heart warming to see and hear what they have been doing to recover my car prior to the tracker becoming active.

Where did you escape to? There isn't much escaping to be done anymore unless it's the biggest promotion. Mr

I for my sins moved into a Joint team at RAF Cosford.

Our paths would probably have passed at Wattisham. I had a Black Jag XK when I was there before I swapped it for a gang banger special!

I take it your not tied to Army Aviation then?

You have many available escape routes then.

I won't mention his name but was there still a Black RS4 kicking around Wattisham whilst you were there?

Yeah. It was the REME Sgt I was thinking of. I've just found him again on the RS forum. I used to share a SSSA flat with him in Ipswich.

It caused me no end of problems when Capt Wales was there with his RS3. I used to think it was my flat mate driving towards me as I frantically waved and flashed to get him to pull over only to be confronted by a completely different bemused ginger bloke.
