Whats Grappling all about, the bloke who runs Cooper West Motorsport in Urmston started telling me all about it but I couldnt really tell cos my car was on the dyno, he was encouraging me to come and have a go at his club but I felt I may have been in the "Fresh Meat" category !
Dont know why he started squaring up to me but I think it may be cos I am fairly tall (6.1) and do a fair bit of weight training (16 st inc lardage) so I think he may have been under the missaprehension that I am "hard"
Used to do Olympic wrestling at school, is it similar >?

Well I know of Terry O'neil... he taught Schwerreniger(SP?) and has been training for years etc etc... I would love to have that kind of commitment... he is one of the originals...
A mate I train with went to a training course run by Terry this is what my mate reckons happened after and he has enough front for it to have actually happened, he says he went and spoke with him after the course and ended up going out drinking and talking etc
and went clubbing... etc.. then as they left the club some guy said "Hey your Terry O'neil aren't you?" Terry turns to mate and says "Here we go" anyway the guy wanted to fight him.... Terry hit the guy and he went over a car bonnet and started to get back up... Terry said "**** if he can get back up after that then I am out of here" and legged it... ?! dunno if it is true but an interesting story anyhow.
I went to my first Wing Chun lesson of sorts last night..
the instructor is doing a 3week Self Protection course for free and then into the Wing Chun... so I haven't done any Wing Chun yet.. but the self protection was interesting.. the guy was in the forces of sorts and he way of thinking seemed to make sense..
Going from a Shotokan Karate back ground I am not sure how I will get on with Wing Chun.. but it might get my enfusiasm back up again... slight injury to wrist last time I trained last month and I am not overly happy with the club I have been attending.
Currently working away from home and my usual club etc..

There are many stories about Terry O'N. Don't know if this is an urban martial mith but...
Heard that one time he was home and a bunch of scum bags were outside causing trouble in the street. Apparently they had a go at his car. He grabbed a katana and ran outside with full battle cry.
The dirt bags soon scattered!
Not sure you'd get away with it these days. Great Scoob protection but you'd soon be arrested after the scumbags reported you.

Mark Jackon,
Hi, I think I know they guy you are talking about, Steve Cooper, I've trained with him quite a bit. He's a nice chap. The Grappling he's talking about is basically fighting on the floor UFC style.
Bit like wrestling I suppose, but much more to it, leg locks, strikes, etc. etc.
JGM2,
I made the transition from Shotokan to Wing Chun, big culture shock, takes some getting used to. Shotokan very strength based, Wing Chun invented by a woman so greater emphasis on fast, short successive strikes rather than one big gyakusuki (sp?)![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Combined the two though and you've got the best of both worlds.
Cheers
Rich

I've done a bit of:
Judo (when I was very young)
Wado Ryu Karate
Shotokan Karate
Lao Gar Kung Fu
Didn't stick with any of them because I kept moving from place to place due to Uni / work.
I must get back into it - too lardy and lazy for my own good these days...

My sensei is quite good friends with Terry O'Neill and i have heard a few interesting facts, none of which i would like to go into over the web,as i value my life.
With respect to Gary Spiers, again my sensei knew Gary well and from what i was told he passed away from natural causes.
The reason why i am sure about this,is because Gary was due to teach us on a course, but passed away before we had the honour of this,so Sensei O'Neill took the course out of respect.
And as mentioned in a previous reply Terry did instuct Arnie, and was involved in the film Predator and various other movies. And i believe they are good friends.

Ticky Donovan "Respect" that sensei.Among the best!

Any of you heard of Master Danny Guba? He's a damn cool guy who teaches Doce Pares (a Philipino art). He's a close friend to one of my best mate and introduced me to him at a BBQ. We got chatting and in the end, he gave me a few pointers on how to....... chat women up !!!!
I'm supposed to study under him to be an instructor, but from the help that I've given (or attempted) to a few scoobynetters on drivetrain and general technical, you can tell that I'm a cr4p teacher.

"CHAT WOMEN UP" thats an art hard to get a masters degree in,without alot of heavy blows and blood loss, when using a tacky chat up line!!!!
Chatting up female student's seem's to be part of the grading syllabus!

Dean, chatting up women students is far too easy. All thats needed is a bit of alcohol and thats it. Now women on the other hand are another matter all together.

Hmm seems to be quite a popular thing this martial arts
I got my first Dan in Shukokai about 8 years ago.
Dabbled with a bit of Wing Chung about a year ago. Quite liked the Chi Sau (sticking hands) business, but never really got into it.
Missed traditional karate.
So I've now taken up Wado Ryu
It's amazing how starting again makes you appreciate the basics more and the understanding is SO much higher![](http://home.clara.net/scorchio/smile/sgrin.gif)
Keep it up guys
