Awesome looking car that with an amazing spec! the fact that they can be picked up relatively cheap now is making me seriously consider one...

I actually think they look better than the MK2, I like the subtleness of them compared to the MK2's extreme look.


I haven't seen many around too, I've seen lots of Mk2's but very few MK1's

I had it on Powerstation Rollers once when I went to a Subaru RR day when it was running the standard turbo with load of bolt on mods, but the car kept spinning on the rollers and we couldn't strap it down to get a decent run.

And the guy I sold it to never had it on the rolling road either, but guessing with that spec list it was 360-380bhp!!

I haven't seen many around too, I've seen lots of Mk2's but very few MK1's
Been in both MK1 and MK2 FRS, and I hate to say it, but the Mk2 is really a great all round car, If I had to choose, it would be the MK2 RS(the sound of that exhaust note) but prices of the MK2 are still strong, a decent one with low miles your looking at £20-24k, where as the Mk1 RS you could get a really clean low mileage one for £10k.

But if your thinking of getting a Mk1 FRS, they are great cars, you would not be disappointed, they are quite raw, and when modified you really have to be awake when they come on boost, but keep it off boost and it drives like a normal focus, even get decent mpg, and I found insurance is a lot cheaper then a Impreza STi.

I bought my classic as I now buy cheap fun track/weekend toys that are capable without spending a fortune to buy them as if they get wrecked it's not too much money lost and if it's had good money spent on parts you can always recoup most of that by breaking.
Since selling the newage wagon which was my daily, I found it best to have 2 cars and since that I've concentrated on cheap capable toys which have been, mx5 race/track spec, Clio 172 and now the classic in progress.
I can't justify spending big money on a toy when they can be had for much cheaper and more capable than some of the big money cars.
And still have a nice daily to potter around in.

Yer defo agree with you there dude, and I know what you mean. On the FB pages for example - there are some truly awful examples knocking about.The difference between enthusiast owned and some chav who wants a 'turbo' car are miles apart

My mate has a mr 375 mountune rs. Awesome in the dry. Useless in the wet.

If i had 20k to.spend I would make my scoob into an rs beater on all levels.

Yes the rs is a great car but just show s how capable a 15 year old 4door saloon can hold s on for fraction of the cost.

Well I think it's testament to just how good the Impreza in all it's incarnations was and still is.

20 years on and it's still keeping up with and indeed in front of many modern cars.

Personally not keen on anything after the blob, but wouldn't say no to a hatch special edition if someone chucked me the keys for free. Which is what we should be comparing to the Focus RS as it's more a kin to something like the R204- 205 and CS400, yet it's the humble Classic still holding it's own against modern machinery that costs significantly more money, to some of us it's a trick that never gets old.

all it does is keep up on initial launch and for one reason only.......4wd
the rest is stuck back in the decade it was designed like,rust,poor interior,silly running costs etc.

Yeah Fords don't rust, do 600miles to a tank and cost peanuts to service.

where did i say i didnt like them?? just because im not a blinkered impreza beats everything fool doesn't mean i dont like them.

ill keep logging on until that strokers built so i will be around for years or probably till the end of time

Should have bought a WRX.

I, along with other SN members can get 36mpg on a long run, my insurance is less than £300 and save for CV boots splitting, the car has been very reliable. Parts on the WRX are substantially cheaper than the STI, especially used ones.

It's a great car in general imo. The WRX/STI is the #1 tuners car in the world I believe. The WRX just trumps the STI so badly at usable power levels.

as you seem to forget i ran awrx for years also and it would never ever ever get 36 mpg, but then again i didnt have the uprated arb and lightweight crank pulley

running costs arent an issue to me given the fact my sti hasnt moved for ages but our diesel has and this realy does get over 36 mpg with no magic arbs

Do the RS's have the same torque limiter in 1st and 2nd as the ST's?

Had an ST right up my chuff while back, couldn't shake him at all..

Pulled up next to me at the lights, then I left him like he was going backwards.

So yeah, in a straight line fast FWD stuff will be just as quick/quicker but personally, I know which car I'd rather be in.

Yes but its not the fastest car on gods earth,its an ageing jap sh1tbox now mostly owned by illiterate tools that use Facebook sites!

I own an impreza as I'm an enthusiast,but I'm not so stupid as some to think its some supercar killer.
Modern hatches have left imprezas miles behind in speed handling and interior quality!
All the imprezas has to help it too 60 faster is 4wd!

You really are a sad little man. You say you do it to get a rise out of the stupid, when in fact, all you are doing is trying to belittle everyone. That's the sad fact.

The op didn't come on here saying that his car is the fastest. He said that his 1280kg sti with 300bhp beat a 1400kg + RS with 300bhp. Old or not, the sti has power to weight ratio advantage and always will have in standard trim.

I really don't get what your problem is.
