Love lost for the WRX

Suspension was just as important as the brakes , If you don't track then just get the springs do not bother with AR bars go either for a set of coil overs from HSD ( lots recomend these here for the money ) these are fairly firm with 7kg /mm spring rate. Or a set of BC s (I have these) which are 6kg / mm both get the car lowered , id advise down 30mm . Expect to pay 800 fitted / geometry set. A good set of coilovers transform the feeling of the car, a big step in safety and enjoyment.

Definitely option 1 and will refurb my current calipers as I think they need it plus i want to keep the std wheels, aside from a sti spoiler I want the car to remain as standard looking as possible (a wolf in sheeps clothing theme)
Sti Spoiler is anything but descrete !
The rears will be done in the future, I don't track or drive on windy roads much, my main commute is to work is 9 miles one way consisting of 7 miles of straight A roads and 2 miles of town driving. Weekend driving is pretty much the same, I live in the most easterly point of england we don't have much in terms of roads but the A12 that runs pretty much all the way through is where I will have most of my fun

Plan is in the pipeline.. just ordered the boost controller, fuel pump and air filter. Well..it isn't a genuine sti spoiler if that helps at all with discretion haha I just couldn't look at that god awful wrx spoiler any longer

Mind you, the BM's remap quite nicely too

I would make sure you price everything up properly regards brake options, because by the time you have swapped discs and refirbed everything you could be only a £100/200 from a half decent big brake set up.
AP's come up quite regularly for £6/700 on here, D2's etc can be bought new for not much more.

You could fit used callipers and they're great, equally they could be crap if the seals are worn and sticking. The only way to be sure is to refurb them. As I said previously you'll get bigger gains from bigger discs than bigger callipers over standard. Once you've bought the brenbos for £600 you still need the bigger discs and new pads that go with them as they aren't designed for your standard discs and the refurb costs of the callipers if you do them so it could really add up.

sad state of affairs is subarus are not that quick, esp by todays standard of hot hatch
my cupra is 310bhp ish with no transmission loss, and makes for a very quick car
but, I would have another impreza- just something about the sound, the driving position etc. but ultimately need a wedge throwing at if you want out and out performance

Have you tried a Audi S3 Jake??

Cuprajake, could you explain the no transmission loss part of your post please mate as I'm intrigued. All transmissions create loss of varying proportions due to the mechanical friction inherent in any parts that pass power from one thing to another let alone the power that is absorbed by the fact the gearbox has oil in it. You will have a horsepower at the flywheel and horse power at the wheels. I believe the average transmission loss 15% give or take so I really do not understand where you get the no transmission loss from?
Thanks,
Andy.

I meant compared to an awd impreza.
Take a scoob and say a cupra both at 240bhp engine power. The 2wd will have more whp.
Yes I know 4wd will put it down better, but once moving the 4wd isn't as important. Real world anyway.
This is a Subaru forum, so realistically the scoob is the best car in the world. Sadly now there ageing and modern cars can really pack a punch

The N54 engine in the 335i is an absolute peach and VERY tuneable. 400bhp is easily achievable.
I have the later N55 in mine; same basic unit but twin scroll single turbo instead of two smallish blowers; torque peaks at 1300rpm, it happily revs to over 7000 rpm and it makes a glorious sound. Six cylinder engines are just a joy; light enough but very grunty.
I wouldn't discount the 335i; it's a great car. Just look out for high pressure fuel pump failure.
RWD is a lot of fun too.

I've had a 335i for company car for a while and now own a wrx hatch and the wrx is a much better car to drive and enjoy imo. The build quality and car in general of the bow is better and the bmw was cheaper to run but couldn't get on with it but I adore my wrx. Granted I don't drive her everyday as I've got company car but the wife uses the wrx everyday and loves it also.
Problem is we all like different things, you need to really weigh up what you do and what you use the car for. I loved at what we needed the car for and the misses drives 30 miles a day to work and I use the car on weekends and when I bought the hatch the idea was we would stick the dog in the boot and go to the beach but the cars to clean for that so we don't bother with that now lol but we could if we wanted to. I have weighed up getting a hatch sti but it wouldn't suit with our needs. So what I'm saying is take some time to asses your life and that will help you make your mind up. One thing I will say also is the friendship and togetherness you get with a scoob you don't get with a bmw in fact very much the opposite.
I have also had a type r and yes they are very nice cars to drive they are a proper drivers car but you couldn't live day to day with them to harsh and you just want to drive fast everywhere.
I have had the arb and white line rear mods done on my hatch and she handle very well I just need to sort the brakes same as yours.

Decided to stay with the WRX for now and take it to the next level, whether I go any further after that I don't know maybe I will look at the 335i in another year or so, prices will be lower so might sway the decision...
I detailed the WRX today and after looking at it I don't think I can part with it yet.
The 335i is a great car, it is ideal for someone who wants close to M3 power without the premium cost. If/when I change the subaru, the 335i will be the next toy

So, I do keep an open mind, lol!

As I said early, you need @270bhp to match the power to weight of the 335i and thus acceleration. The BMW may have slightly more torque and gearing will be a factor. If you are running nearer to 300bhp in the Impreza, you'll be faster than a 335i at any speed, in any gear and in any conditions. @350bhp the Bimmer wouldn't see which way you went.
Mind you, the BM's remap quite nicely too

That's what I had before the M135i (which basically has a tuned up 335i engine and is lighter); certainly upset a few supposedly rapid motors while looking just like a boggo 318d hearse.
