At what point do I need a fuel pump/boost controller

Been a long day so will have to read this again in the morning as I literally have no idea what you just said...
I'm going to take from it that I should map everything in one (the plan from day 1) and that I should buy a 3 port. I'm not sure I have a 'made in china' sticker on the TD05...is it really not a good turbo?

The other problem on the TD05 16G is you have to run it at high pressure to get the flow needed for 350 bhp on a 2.0 , its not terribly effecient and creates hot gas , at higher boost that's bad for fuel economy / power , its size is probably best suited to 320-330 bhp where its in its effiecient area at 1.0 bar. If you want more power at lower boost pressure you should go to the 18G .

yep, I would
I was advised to get a walbro with first map (6 years ago) it didn't last 2 years, bought another one and same again. had the race spec one on over 2 years and it's still fine.
are you fitting a bigger top mount? I have a race spec top mount http://www.racespecperformance.com/i...tercooler.html + http://www.racespecperformance.com/i...-pipe-kit.html
don't know how it compares side by side to the sti item though

I wish Id bought something else , but its cheap so , you just have to bear that in mind and do something about the WG actuator if its opening too early, in the link I sent you you can see how to check that.

would be more than happy at 320bhp to be honest, I bought the 16g with it in mind that it is limited to its power compared to the VF range and 18g/20g to stop me from going silly and then having to pay out for a new gearbox/clutch as I have read repeatedly that 350 on wrx gearbox is playing with fire
Clutch will have to be done sooner or later, when you do make it Excedy pink
Gearbox will be mostly fine to 350 , but its torque that kills them not revs .
So don't drop the clutch at the lights too much.

Unless you spend all your time tinkering around town at traffic lights. And then the power loss is not important anyway. If you really want to cool the IC down then fit the Sti water spray S/H about 60 quid from breakers here.
Soon as you get underway again the heat is dissapated almost as well.
The biggest issue is not pushing the TD05 16G into the non effiecient range at higher boost. It gets very hot. You can lag the pipes to prevent it a bit but basically try to be satisfied with 1.2 bar and 320 bhp Rather than 1.5+ bar and 340 - 350 . If you have it twin mapped it you can restrict yourself a bit.

What we should have done is get a med large Vf range or a TD05 18g and just map to run lower boost 1-1.2bar . It is better for fuel consumption and still makes 350 , and the turbo lasts longer because its not spinning at >150000 revs most / all the time at full boost.
The only slight advantage is that the 16g spools up a couple of hundred quicker than the 18g .
If you keep to a fairly low volume IC ( Sti size IC ) then you have less volume to compress and build boost reasonably fast. I went silly and have a TMIC that has 2.5 liter volume against the TD04 IC that's 1.5 liter volume. Nobody with our TD05 16G turbos will ever need a FMIC.
