1. 2015 Subaru WRX (tie)

The Subaru WRX joins the Macan and Mustang as the most in-demand cars in America. With 268 horsepower and 258 pounds-feet of torque, WRX ($26,295) is a beast in Japanese sedan clothing. Because every Subaru sports all-wheel drive, there is no reason to expect drivers to pass on these speed demons in snowy weather. Just wait for the plows to come through and then tear of down the road in one of the best performance values this side of a Mustang. The only trouble is finding one. Like a 2015 ‘Stang and a new Macan, WRX only hangs around dealer lots for 10 days at a time.

Didn't know the new WRX had 268BHP as standard, must be the equivalent of our WRX PPP?

I like the new STi's, stunning looking car in the flesh.

I agree, German cars are better than Subaru but it doesn't mean that they don't miss lead from time to time and have flaws.
Was just trying to add some balance.

But then, both IM and FHI grew greeeedy with the new UK market, and strangled it.
Along came t'internet and suddenly, people could SEE they were being treated like idiots...so bought other cars, NOT Subaru.

I had a brand-spanker in 1998. Still got it.

I wouldn't have a new one given.

I think this has a lot to do with it.
I don't think German cars are head and shoulders above the rest of the market place but where i do feel they are better is in dealing with problems which subsequently gives them the reputation of reliability that they have.

Do we think in this modern day that IF Subaru even gave us a car similar to the cars of old, ie would be a bit quicker than the new m3 etc but had very little in the way of comfort and tech at a similar price point as before people would buy them?

I don't, even at the peak for Subaru in the UK they didn't sell that many cars and with image and gadgets being high on peoples list i don't see that many people would buy other than a relatively small number of enthusiast.

Probably on to something there.

Before the rally wannabes jumped on board with their silly spoilers, Subaru was very much a Q-car. And that's the main reason I originally went after one....a Legacy 4cam Turbo to be precise (Still the Daddy IMO ).

So it was a minority car back then, but a cheap one.

Prices only seemed to go stupid when the marque became popular and they ceased to be a Q-car.

The Volkswagen Group is clearly doing something right if they are making and selling cars that people want, profitably. End of ? Sales of 10 million in 2014.

Subaru has always been a tiny niche player in the UK and was punching above its weight in the late 90's because of you know what.

They are still seen as practical, reliable good value (and sometimes) sporty cars in the US and on the volumes they sell, that's where they continue to make their money.

Think about International Motors in the UK as the importers - they have the Great Wall brand import rights FFS. Subaru has had its glory days in the UK, let's be honest.

regardless of whether German cars are better or not, clearly in the US Subaru's are very popular.

Then there is the fact of how big America is (how many more sales of cars), and how their climate varies that a 4x4 in some states is essential and how performance vehicles has a much bigger 'social society' than they do in this country.

Impossible to compare a USDM market to the UK market. Way too many variables.

Subaru UK has announced two important launches for 2015: the new Outback in March and the all-new Levorg sport wagon in autumn.

Already on sale in the US, the UK-spec Outback will debut Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist technology and will also place particular emphasis on infotainment systems. No information was revealed regarding engine variants for either model.

In the US, the Outback is powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter flat-four engine producing 175hp, but for the UK the model is likely to get a diesel too.

As for the Subaru Levorg, the model is currently on sale in Japan only, where it is offered with a choice of two powertrains: a new 1.6-liter direct-injection turbocharged gasoline boxer engine delivering 168hp (170PS) and a similar 2.0-liter unit with 296hp (300PS).Subaru UK has also announced sales figures for 2014, with the Japanese brand reporting an impressive 23 percent year-on-year growth. The brand also saw an 8.6 percent increase in new car registrations in December, outperforming Britain’s overall new car market and helping the brand to increase market share.

Subaru attributes growth to new models launched last year such as the new WRX STI and Impreza, as well as price cuts to existing models. Subaru’s range of SUVs and crossovers have also proven more popular in 2014. The Forester remains the brand’s bestseller in the UK, with 1,210 cars sold last year (up 33 percent). Subaru UK expects Forester sales to further grow in 2015 with the arrival of the Forester Lineartronic diesel model in April.
