Bits to do at Slowboy

My advice is to start getting more involved with car, regards servicing, general maintenance.. Maybe get a mate that's handy to help you at the start... It will save you a LOT of money..
I know over the years of I wasn't to able to look after my own cars and had to pay for every bit of labour.. Well I would not have performance cars anymore.

I presumed that 2K would be about right but if I were spending 2K on upgrades I would be happier than spending 2K on precautionary measures, (no comments please Trinity, lol) either way I will hopefully have peace of mind and a power upgrade, down pipe ordered, I wonder how different it will drive!!!

I must say, after being set on a quiet exhaust, and looking at the Genomes online, they seem quiet when cruising and sound brutal when being opened up. Hmmmmmm

Neil can't get the down pipe
Until next week, and possibly can't fit it until the following week.
He is going to remap it for now without and then do a re-tweek when he fits the cat next week.
My question is - does a down pipe make that much difference to the way it performs/feels?

Go for a sports cat. You live close to London, if you get stung with a roadside emissions test its a right ballache, not to mention having to find a friendly MOT tester.
As its not a twinscroll, a sports cat will be quite cheap.
I personally would'nt map without the new pipe being fitted.Do it once, do it properly.

Found a pipe from import car parts, will be delivered on Thursday, while on the phone to them they said a walbro fuel pump and panel filter totals less than £100, Neil said he could map it without these bits but is there a reason I shouldn't just get these bits sent too?

Do Luck panel filters get the best results, as per Banzai or Jap PErformance (one of the two) magazine rolling road test with an Impreza.

Fuel pump ordered, panel filter ordered, seeing as its gone this far I asked Luke if he could supply anything else to enhance the performancr, to which he said no, any more last minute suggestions without addressing turbo etc from you guys. I wonder what figures I will produce
F#%* me I only went in for a set of hoses!!!!

Not sure about running it on Meth, don't know much about it, wouldn't wanna force-feed too much artificial power through the engine

Kept my normal one on here, apparently it's already 2.5"? Or maybe that was just the downpipe. As I said before I could be tempted towards the genome if it was shiny and new looking.

For a road car driven to work everyday I wouldn't use meth either, just starts to make things too complicated.
Do what you can, and enjoy it. You'll soon get bored and want more.
Should of bought a twinscroll now after what you will end up spending

If you don't want to bother with meth, then I wouldn't set my sights on 350. I would aim for 330 and anything after is a bonus... A lot of people set there goals at the higher end of the scale and are more often Dissapointed than happy with the end result..
If you do the stage 1 mods as above, and run good fuel.. Then that will see out your turbos potential... After that it's turbo upgrade time and the endless hunt for power begins lol

So I got the car back today. It's running very well, and it was a great service from Neil start to finish.
There wasn't a huge difference in feeling of power, and despite not having a graph or readout from the mapping, Neil assures me it is somewhere in the region of 330. I notice the lag a bit more how and the turbo seems to come in a bit stronger and feels smoother right the way round. The real difference I notice is that sound of the turbo and the dump valve, I have to ask him if he has suddenly fitted one as it's gone from no sound from the turbo to a high air sound combined with the dump valve sound - obviously this is a plus point :-)
Only mother thing I notice now is my RPM beeper seems to be giving up, is this an easy fix? It kind of beeps once and quite faintly, plus when I set it from a standstill it kind of beeps to accept any chances I make but makes a sort of Atari-st sound lol

Neil tweaked up the map on my car after a turbo, with problems, thinking it was the solenoid as the problem..tonnes of lag, then too much boost made it drive terribly.. thankfully Duncan fixed it in an hour with no solenoid valve.
You should definitely of been seeing a power increase, unless the car had been mapped previously. Would be interesting to get it on the rollers to have a look at the power delivery, I think Surrey Rolling road is not far from you?
