best boost controller for the money?
#32
I'm aware the ecu can, what I'm asking is can all the aftermarket electronic controllers the OP listed do that?

i'm not one to argue with a guy who is "pretty sure". Boost control is a different topic from mapping the car to suit the mods or if your car is running lean or not. if your pretty sure I'm assuming you have a wideband O2 and have checked and confirmed your fuelling in line with your EGT's so you know your new boost levels are safe. If not maybe you are running lean and maybe you are risking your engine - that's your call and your welcome to it.

Superchips made a living out of selling glorified bleed valves coupled with fuel cut defencers, then passing them off as 'mapped chips'. They were not mapped just the boost upped to the point where AFR was just within what the ecu could handle. Precisely what boosted has done except he hasn't paid someone several hundred pounds for it. It's a cheap and easy way of gaining power but only if you know what you're doing.

Some of the blitz ones have an additional input as well, you can use it for vehicle speed/throttle input/maf reading etc. and have the boost adjusted based on that.
But to determine what's best for an individual setup it's up to the end user to decide what they want from it and what they are happy with. Your happy with your MBC and if it's meeting your needs then you can't argue with the value for money.

I have an Avcr controlling my boost and its a great bit of kit. It allows me to instantly switch between 2 boost settings and also has an off/valet setting which then only runs at actuator pressure which is handy if you have to leave the car with anybody.
Its also a good tool for setting the boost levels for each gear and u can set a boost curve on how smooth or agressive the boost comes on which is handy for different road surfaces. In cold weather it will also detect and pull back any over boost. It creates a very flat line on the boost display on the dyno screen too so controls boost very well.
Andy Forrest still recommends an avcr on his tuning guide when taking boost above 1.5 bar.

So much off topic guys. Please keep to the question, and who has and wants to use his "magic self adjusting ECU", go ahead, and call me when you need a rebuild.
Tidgy my ecu is mapped and i got 3 port solenoid too etc. Probably the ramp-up is too fast from what i can see on my car. there is literally no lag because I start getting boost from about 2k rpm and at 3.5k is reaching it's peak. Combine that with nos in 3rd gear or 2nd gear and the boost gauge looks like it about to shot a rocket out of the pin . this then results in boost spikes because ecu just can't control it fast enough. Two different mappers mapped my car, (i am happy with both) and both said i need better boost control. (it's good now, all under control, but it could be better).
Dubzy - Finally someone on topic. Thanks. I heard they are good, i suppose that's why they are still so expensive. However I want to get the opinions on the other-ones too. I was also looking at that Blitz one, that dual solenoid valve stuff sounds promising. (+ the A/F ratio display). New is $1075 and I can get one for £300.
Last of regarding the Valet/Off feature of AVCR - I usually set my rpm limit from apexi to 2.5k and boost to 0.5 (minimum). Nobody can give it a trash in this way lol
