Underwhelmed by the M3

I had a B7 RS4 for 2yrs. Great car, but let down by DRC (daft suspension) and I never felt 100% throwing it around corners.
I traded in for a new 2012 M3 coupe with competition pack. I loved that car and went to the 'ring twice in it.
Last yr I traded for a new M4. If it's torque you want then this certainly ticks the box. I miss some aspects of the M3 but love the M4. Although it's tricky to drive quickly in the wet.

Apparently, the M4 can be temperamental in the dry too.
Ouch!

I genuinely thought i'd been forum assaulted by Shakespeare.
As has been said, 2 completely different cars, dont know why OP has got his knickers in a twist.
I actually agree completely that the scoob is MUCH more useable day to day in terms of power delivery, the M3 you have to ring its neck being a n/a v8, but it's very rewarding and you cant beat it singing away at 9k. The reason i went back to an M3 is because i'm a bit of a girl and like my big leather seats and the comfort, toys, gadgets, etc. For my day to day commute i wasn't man enough to put up with the scoob rawness.
Stock vs Stock, the M3 (primarily the E92) is in a different league altogether from a STI, nevermind a WRX.
I'm sick of hearing the whole "massively modded vs stock" debate, you can make a nova beat a veyron if you're willing to chuck enough cash at it ffs.
In terms of the M3 specifically, i wouldnt even consider supercharging, even ESS M3's running 600hp are doing 11s 1/4 miles, they're just not a fast car in a straight line, on the bends what they were made for is where they shine, i've genuinely never driven a better STOCK car that handles as well as the M3 does out the box, it's made for it. They're not a drag car. They're a drivers car.
Anyway, i shan't rant on any longer, i'll end up sounding like the OP.

Use a thesaurus? Don’t need to, mate – have you not heard that Subaru drivers are the most literate, educated drivers in the world? J
Ok, so since my last response to you, you’ve mentioned me in five different posts without any retort from myself, which shows how sore your sphincter felt after reading my comments, clearly because I hit a raw nerve. I didn’t get my “knickers in a twist” solely because of your immature post yesterday; it was just the final straw. My reaction was more a cumulative thing – the result of reading your cringe-worthy posts for the last month or so... “boohoo, some idiot thought my car was only worth X... boohoo, what do you guys think other people think of the image of my car?...”. I have never replied “Just stop being a sheep and grow a pair, sunshine!” to one of your threads, so I was just a bit p!ssed off that you lowered the tone of my thread with your usual, boring drivel. If you made sensible posts comparing the two cars – like ABx, MRSIMPSON, and others did, for example – people might start taking you seriously. (well, not me!)
I’m certainly no ‘WRX bummer’. I pointed out the price and power discrepancy of the M3 over my WRX and made a very valid point: that there seemed to be very little, if any, difference in terms of performance between the two cars. Even if the M3 is a little quicker and handles a little better, it didn’t FEEL quicker, which is key. You took offence to my first post because you perceived my comments about the M3 as a personal attack. Insecurity alert!!! It’s just a piece of metal, mate. You can say what you want about a WRX – I’m not going to cry about it. I admitted it’s a tinny, rattly sh!tbox. And, overall, I actually said positive things about the M3. It’s a good, solid car and I enjoyed driving it. I would happily swap one for my WRX. I just stated that I don’t think it’s worth the huge price premium, which probably upset you more as you felt like a mug. Well don’t – if you’re happy with your M car and the price you paid, fair play. As Maz said, bang for buck, an Impreza can’t be beaten, which was my point in post 19. Surely such comments should be well received on a Subaru enthusiast forum!? Serious question: Why do you spend so much time on here when you seem to feel such disdain towards the marque?
And if you’re so sick of ‘modded vs stock’ or ‘this car vs that car’ debates, just stop reading them... and definitely don’t reply to them and get yourself all worked up, ha.
Barxy – don’t tell him that M3s are common or he’ll start crying, begin a new thread on a Beemer forum asking “Hey guys, do people think my car is common?” and then sell it next week

"much nicer than that one the muppet bought!"
Brilliant. Nothing quite like a petulant child.
Once more, not even bothered reading any of your essay, you bore me greatly.
Back to your veyron eating WRX little boy

It is indeed santorini blue. I purchased it new from local bmw dealer. It's an M3 E92 colour. They don't currently offer it for the new F8x M3/4 so i went for the common yas marina..
What did you drive at the ring pink ninja?

i have a mate with an m3 v8 that ive driven lively a few times. i own the scoob wrx and a renaultsport 172 cheapo daily to rattle to work in lol.
the v8 doesnt feel as quick as it should because of the luxury, suspension, refine etc that smooth out the raw factor but its a lot quicker than it feels (if that makes sense). great car for day to day comfort
the scoob is what it is, turbo torquey and generally exciting to drive - more so than the m3 (for me) because of the more raw drive and sparse creature comforts. you feel more like youre doing what the clock says you are in a scoob yet still feel well planted on the road. not too great as a day to day though for me, more a weekend car but a great place to be
joker card is the 172.... only wanted a small pokey daily with a zest of fun. raw is an understatement. literally, at 70mph upwards it feels like youre sat in a coke can going 150mph that wants blood. its a cheap french car yes, but you wont fall asleep behind the wheel of one of those in a hurry lol. can see why they get used as track cars so much

After owning my 2005 STI modded to 340 bhp / 336 lbs torque, I too was looking at the E92 M3, very seriously indeed. The one issue that kept on bothering me though were the brakes. I just kept thinking, why would they put such standard brakes on a high powered vehicle. IMO, the M3 in this regard, is not considered by BMW themselves as a true high performance vehicle that can be driven on the road and track.
I was even considering doing a brake upgrade, if I went ahead with the purchase of an M3, but I kept thinking, "I shouldn't have to do this, it should already have a decent brake setup", so I looked for something else.
However, if you look at the new crop of BMW M cars, they come with performance brakes as standard and if I'm not mistaken you get at least 4 pots up front.
I just wanted a car that was on the same platform as my Scooby or better, in terms of track use. Its not even that I used the Scoob on track, but I didn't want lesser performing brakes than I was already accustomes to.

Pros:
Interior much nicer
Torque! Tons of it!!
Corners a lot 'flatter'
More toys. Head-up display, exhaust valves..
M modes a lot more agressive. The car basically has two characters. You can cruise in comfort with not much noise.. Or hit an M button and it turns into an angry racer.
Better Mpg
Cheaper road tax
Cons:
Doesnt sound as good as the V8
Not quite as responsive on the throttle
Lack of engine braking when downshifting
Less 'blip' on the downshift (both cars with DCT)
Not as drivable in the wet. (Lack of grip with all that torque)
Suspension not as planted as my old competition pack E92 on bumpy lanes.
I don't regret moving on, but awaiting the M2 as I think that will suit my needs better..
Bucket seats, manual and alcantara please!
Nick
