Or a cooper S or jcw.
The wife's normal cooper is very nimble at handling.

Tbh the only i didnt like about my 182 was the gearbox / gear changes.
The french really dont know how to make gear changes feel sporty in their cars.

This totally transforms the gear change in an RS Clio...

I think the clio is probably top of the list but the French thing is putting me off a little bit, if it was made by Honda they'd sell millions

What are they like for reliability, I don't mind little electrical niggles like windows not working but I can do without the gearbox munching it'self or a piston through the bonnet.

I have had mine for over a year now no problems at all.

Just make sure they have had the cambelt done if getting one as they are a pain to do.

I went from a 300bhp classic to a 172 clio and I dont miss the classic one bit it's a great giggle to drive it hard but still gives about 25-30mpg around town.

Mainly silly electrical stuff and switches but nothing major easily diagnosed.
Boxes can break but depends of life etc, they are penny's to buy second hand, engines are pretty stable as they are in a high state of tune from factory.
Buy a enthusiast owned = less likely to have major probs.

Clio 172 MKII. Worst car I've ever bought.

Sold my 106 GTI, for the Clio. Worst mistake I've made (car wise)

megane sport, 225bhp not the quickest straight line, but sticks to the road like glue. The limited edition trophy version which is well within your price range

Who are these people buying 206's it's a girls car, when It was designed it was designed for women, I laugh every time I see a guy driving one.

You might aswell buy a Nissan Micra in pink and be done with it

Agree with above comments on fiesta st150 drove one once and hated the thing and thought it was slow and felt awful in the bends. Having said that i now got the mk7 fiesta st180 and thats back to a fun car.

How about a corolla t sport facelift. 189bhp Afew toys inside and 100% reliable. My dads got one. Go over 6.5k revs and it's like a Honda vtec. Or they do a compressor supercharged version. They're standard at 217bhp. Not that much more but the supercharger sounds good

206 is the worst car I've ever driven and I've driven a lot of cars! I'd rather drive the micro car I had, at least that had comedy value.

How a bloke can drive a 206 I'll never know, I had to take my shoes off because of the girly space'd pedals. All the controls are so light and horrible, leg ache due to hovvering on the accelerator. Then there's the interior plastics which make me feel sick and finally the look of the thing, awful cars.
