Officers having a drink of coffee and a laugh!?

How dare they?

I hope you got their numbers to make a complaint. That way they can spend more time off the street responding to another member of the publics totally ridiculous complaint.

I agree with the Op and by the looks of it the majority on snet.
The police force are generally just revenue enforcement officers nowadays.
Long gone are the good ole days of the local bobby walking the street who actually cared for their communities and served it's people.
I personally have zero respect for them, I wouldn't pi55 on a p1g if he was on fire. I have even warned my children not to speak to them as they are dangerous people who are bad news.

Saying all the above, I do think we have it much easier than across the pond were as long as you are wearing the badge on that very **** like uniform you can kill innocent people and get away with it.
The police are nothing more than armed legal terrorists. Very dangerous people.
Some of the videos of our public servants on YouTube are horrendous to watch, just awful.

Our nurses and firemen are our national heroes and receive huge huge public support because of the wonderful jobs they do, they are worth a thousand times more than a copper, in fact putting the word copper in the same sentence as nurse or fireman is an insult!

A friendly bit of advice, any interaction with our public servants should be filmed at all costs, for your own safety and protection, it is not illegal to film them! They are nothing more than armed thugs and should be treated as such.

Yes some of the videos on YouTube are truly shocking. What about the the brutality that's not filmed and what they have got away with!

Yeah because scoobynet opinion is a really good place to reaffirm your prejudices.

General public opinion of our revenue force is at an all time low here in the UK and especially in the states were a young black man seems to be getting murdered daily by badged thugs. Scoobynet members seem to agree with the general publics opinions.
What's your opinion? or are you just going to troll people's posts with illiterate comments!

Funny, several of the recent discussions about UKIP and the subsequent election results show otherwise. Your post also infers that the general population of the UK are xenophobic racists that hate anything different, which is... Interesting.

As for the states, that's a completely different discussion.

UKIP??? What are you on about! This is a discussion regarding losing all respect for the police.
My post infers nothing other than my hate for the stench and the publics ever dwindling support for them.
If you want to discuss Ukip and racism then you are in the wrong thread.

Tend to agree, its the rosy spectacle brigade - forgetting the really really bad/corrupt stuff of the 60, 70, and 80,s

Point of order though - the fitting up of Kiszko was in the mid 70's

I've never had a bad dealing with the police and I've also had no hassle or ever been stopped by one. On this basis I have respect for them and think that they do a good job. I think a lot of people don't see the amount of good they do and only talk about the negatives; a bit like car forums. Lots of people will complain and post problems etc but there are very few that will make a thread just to praise.

Not everything is about punishment!
Back to basics, one example........
Instead of being dressed like armed militarised **** thugs perhaps a different approach to dress code is needed, it maybe would help public opinion, instead of being afraid of the police maybe we would find them more approachable.
Save the **** uniforms for special operations officers.
It can't be easy being a policeman knowing you are generally not liked, you must see it personally on a daily or at least weekly basis.
Can you imagine a day when you go to work and the local communities are proud of their officers and the work you do.

My respect started to go during the miners' strike...and yes, i KNOW the miners weren't all the goody-goodies they are now being painted as. Our area, the wharves and the steelworks was picketed and some of the things the pickets did was horrendous.

But I have to say, stipete is right, today's copper is nothing more than an auxilliary tax gatherer, enforcer and bully-boy for whatever government is in power.

Been saying so for years.

So where do you see me and the rest of my shift then – working on an emergency response shift?
We are the ones who deal with domestic violence offences, dwelling burglaries, criminal damages, thefts, retail thefts as well as sudden deaths, most RTA's now, missing from homes, welfare concerns after social service hours etc. Couple this with what’s left of the local beats teams who do a similar role in between community issues – which is what the community want more of.

None of these bring in 'auxiliary tax' and like I said before none of us touch speeding offences. So what “bull boy tactics for the current government” you refer too is not clear to me.

The government want to reduce crime (not that they have succeeded due to the cuts to the front-line) not increase making money from offences.

I would suggest that 90% of their time is sleeping and playing snooker to be honest.

Ours use to spend their day shifts installing smoke alarms for people. This has recently been assessed as (1) too costly to continue with & (2) having health a safety implications for the fire fighters having to carry out this kind of work. So it has now been stopped – so I don’t know what the fire-fighters do during the day shifts now either.

Besides – a lot of the house fires that get called in, we get their first as we are out and about anyway, so any saving of kids in burning houses is either done by the first on scene or usually by the family and members of the public before anyone arrives.

I would suggest you could count on your hand the number of emergency call outs the brigade get compared to police and ambulance per year.

You're right, not everything is about punishment – words of advice is usually the first port of call. But what do you do after repeated words of advice are being ignored. Or the offence is too great to go down that line, or the victim does not want this (are their thoughts not to be considered). Or there is a threat that the person will continue to re-offend or a proven track record

What type of dress code would you prefer?

We wear the stab vest to stop us getting injured from attacks – which do happen frequently. We carry things like CS gas and tasers to try and prevent further injuries to nasty people who are kicking off, to gain control of them and to stop the greater public becoming injured. We cant simply keep these at the station and go back for them if an incident escalates – we need to wear them all the time as you don't know what’s going to happen from one minute to the next. They after florescent in case we deal with RTA's and need to be visible on roads to other motorists.

I've never experienced any of the public being afraid to approach me. In fact the only ones who don't approach tend to be running from us for a reason – usually criminal. I have also never experienced being “generally not liked” and often chat to various people who walk the other side of the blue line. I respect them, they respect me – they know we have a job to do and we can make it as easy as we can. Yes, there will always be people who don't like us – but these are the people that I would say society doesn't like any way.

I dunno, Felix, but what I DO know is that even when our force, Dumberside, is strapped for cash, there's ALWAYS money for someone to sit behind a camera somewhere, all day and some of the night, and more still for a motor cycle officer to spend his entire days setting up his little money box on road after road after road.

SOMEONE is prosecuting speeders, and the letters come from Dumberside police...you know, the one that demands money with menaces and insists you incriminate yourself?

As for bully boys, where do the extra cops come from when there's a demo anywhere? And what do they do? Apart from chucking people on the ground and killing them, that is?

This is a great thread.

I'm just going to leave it by saying this one thing;

In nine years Of policing I've never done anyone for speeding in fact the only tickets I ever give out are for no insurance and mobile phones (terrible I know)

I've been told I was bullied at school approximately 324 times.

I've been told 'I pay your wages' 268 times.

Been asked if someone can wee in my helmet around 567 times.

Had people threaten to find my wife and children and kill them 6 times.

Been told by people that they hope my children get cancer about a dozen times.

Told someone there loved one has died about 20 times.

Done CPR on people 6 times.

Been assaulted and spat on etc I don't know how many times.

But I've never pava'd anyonr, batoned anyone or tasered anyone.

People genuinely have no idea what police do which is a real shame. There's no point arguing really as you're never going to change an opinion on here. I just hope that one day when some of the haterz need the rozzers they change there mind.

none of us are getting anymore due to the cuts - we lost about 20% of front line officers. And with the tory's getting in, more cuts are coming due to them believing that crime is falling and everyone is happy.

If Humberside are still prosecuting speeders, then don't speed or just accept the fact that you take a chance when you do. But as i have said before, you will be surprised how many times complaints of speeding is brought up at community meetings with people wanting action taking against them.

The 'bully boys' as you call it are called in from other forces. normally officers on days off who have their rest day cancelled and just given a day back. A day back that you can never take due to the shortfall on the shifts! Their roll in the demos is to maintain order for the other members of the public.

I do. But then you get a backlash from the 'victim' when you are seeming to side with the 'offender'. For example, a car is broken into in a car park and the victim sights a male hanging around in the car park. He put 2 and 2 together and tells us that it must be him that's done his car. We speak to the male who denies any knowledge, he has nothing on him etc etc. Victim then complains that we have let him go and that we don't do anything.

However, if the victim's version of events is perhaps supported by other evidence (phone records, other witnesses etc) the weight will fall on the side of the victim.

What was the outcome of your case - and the one before if you were previously arrested?
