Hurrah, another M135i owner on here at last!!

I got £6k off mine, built to order. Still loving it 18 months and 16k miles later!

Indeed, The M135i is no looker but compared to the current STI or the hatch STI it's the automotive equivalent of Miss World.

We had the mk3 GTi 16v Golf - it's HUGELY better than the 8v - better brakes, suspension, much more power, well made. It also handles way better than the much more praised VR6 which was a floaty barge.

Then it was a mk4 R32 which at the time seemed great but 240bhp from a 3.2 V6 was a bit lame although the throttle response was superb and the delivery of an N/A engine is often the best IMO.

I wouldn't touch an R with a long barge pole - our £45k VW was the most unreliable vehicle (it was the top end California 180 4Motion camper bought new) I've ever had - worse even than our LR 110 Defender. No more VAG cars for us again. They can't build them properly any more. Plus the in-line 4 pot engines are just dull. The only 4 pot worth having is Subaru's boxer engine range. Character over clinical numbers any day.

The 8v taught me a valuable lesson in car DIY work. Read a manual before taking mounting bolts out of the started on a PB engine Mk2 Golf, it's hold the chassis to the engine block. The engine will rotate forward if you take it out without support and will make you sh*t your pants if you are underneath the car.
I've watched folk do that..for me, it was learning that taking an 8v manifold off in situ is the worst idea one can ever have, ever...ever.

Yup it was. I hated it.
A friend had the 16v and he hated it too.
I have another friend that is mad on them he loves them, but he only buys the VR's so id imagine they are a bit better.
But overall, sh*t car and sold it after about a month if that.

The VR6 had softer suspension, narrower tyres and was horribly nose heavy.
The 16v was a better car.

None were great but I preferred mine to my mk2 GTi.
