Are sky taking the piss.....

These days it's appears different though, I tried on a couple of occasions and they seemed happy for me to walk.
They have most people by the ball's really, me included. We love our tele and I enjoy the discovery channels, boxing, F1 etc etc. My wife enjoys the movie channels as does my little girl.
So no doubt I'll keep on forking out each month while whining about how I'm being ripped off

I agree this is what used to happen. I once got a brand new dish and HD box when I told them I was off.

Yeah but you can get all of that off the internet for free or next to nothing, just takes a little effort and a couple of cables, I watch all sorts from my Macbook Air either on it or on my projector with a couple of leads, one apple dongle type thing and a Keylight AVerMedia that has 3 phono leads and s-vidio to go into the projector and a jack for surround sound, takes 10 seconds to plug in if I fancy using the projector to watch something and cost me about £50 (most of which was apple tax) Internet has everything you could possibly want to watch for the rest of your life and that of your daughter, why pay £1k a year stick it in the bank and by the time your daughter is ready for uni you'll have the money to pay for it.

I'm sure you could get some HDMI leads to do the same thing if that's what your into and download the movies but I just stream them with no problems.

Well just put the phone down after a half hour rant at some sky customer service chap.
I explained that after ten years as a customer I was bitterly disappointed with their service and price structure and wanted to cancel my subscription.
But being the mug I am I ended up taking some deal and offer and still have the exact same subscription......lol.....
My bill has reduced (I was paying more than I thought) from £87.90 per month to £71 and I still have the entire package plus phone and unlimited Internet.
So not quite the end result I was expecting from the phone call but a saving of roughly £150 a year will do for now.

As I said in post 22, they will happily let you give notice to cancel but I guarantee they will be on the phone begging you to stay before the notice period ends. They did it to me six weeks ago, they dropped my bill by almost two thirds and a free first month and all with no tie in.

So I have sky television and pay a small fortune every month for the privilege. My bill is in the region of £80 every month which to me is alot. Yes I chose to have all the channels and I also have my broadband with them but even so, it's still alot of money.
I can't stand football but am a huge F1 and boxing fan. For some reason I have to have all the sports channels even though the F1 has its own channel and the boxing is only ever on sky sports 1. But still they charge me over £20 extra a month for all the sports channels. Oh well, that's how it is, nothing I can do about it so If i want the F1 and boxing I just have to pay it. No huge grumbles there.
But what really boils my **** is sky box office !!!! Any decent fight is now shown on sky box office which then costs another small fortune on top of the 80 sodding quid I'm already paying !!!
So last week was the mayweather/Pacquiao fight at £20. Fair enough, it was a hugely anticipated fight and I was happy to stump up the extra to watch it (even though I wish I hadn't bothered). But just watching ringside and I see that next weekend fights will also be on box office. They now want another £16.95 to watch the card which isn't exactly a fantastic one to he honest.
Why am I paying the extra each month to have sky sports when if a decent fight is on they stick it on the box office channel. To me that is a serious pi55 take and I am utterly fuming.

While the gullible keep paying, Sky will keep charging.
No doubt you also hate the fact you have to pay £145 per year for the TV licence?

lol you can't guarantee it at all, what if they decide to actual cancel the account? what if when you did it they needed to boost their month end figures? I wouldn't want to take that gamble without knowing if they intend on actually doing it or not. Like i've said before i was 1 step away from losing my account with them on the phone, they were ready to cancel it there and then after the notice period was over once. I've tried it a few times with no joy, i think my card is marked now

But what can I say, I do like having plenty to watch on TV and to be fair they do show some pretty decent programmes. I'm currently hooked on 'street outlaws' and 'gold rush', not to mention the many car shows I have on series link.
It just annoys me how they feel it's fair to show sports on a chargeable box office channel when I already pay extra for the sports channels. They should let the people who have the sports package watch the box office for free and only charge those who don't already pay the extra each month.

I rang to cancel last week. We played the game and I got 50% off variety for 10 months, 50% off HD and multiscreen for 6 months and movies off for 3 months. I made a bit of a fuss because the website offered me 3 discounts at once and the livechat person said I could only have one at a time. I moaned, said I'd cancel and they kept me.
I don't really want to lose Sky altogether because I get F1 through my HD pack. If I bin sky altogether, if I re-apply I'll have to have all the sport to get F1.

I have 3-in-one i.e. internet, telephone and TV with Sky, and I pay about £65 as a rounded cost for all this. We, of course, pay for Netflix separately. I'm spending much less than some of you guys on Sky subscription, and it makes me feel better.

I'm not sure what else i can negotiate with if they adamantly say no every time, even after going through retentions. My only option to save dorrah is to **** it all off!

I'm happy with my package.
