I am unaware of any racing element to paragliding; or fitness element. You just hang on and steer; never done it, no real desire to.

Put 12kg on your back, hike hours to take off then fly as far as you can, look up the X-Alps, very athletic and strategic.

Latest one I have of me, 55 years old and she wants me 👍😀

I have a power kite if that helps? I do occasionally take off; and get dragged across the beach.

No I do not, nowhere near it, my mate Dave is this year. It was an extreme example of the sporting element. My hike and fly attempts have been pitiful in distance but great days out. Sierra Nevada's in California later this year or early next, fell of my bike last year so had to postpone.

I'm struggling to see a smoker of 30 years running up big hills but you never know.

I do run up mountains when I get the chance (Pyrenees, Picos, Alps, Brecons, Highlands, SW Ireland, etc) but not weighted. I've done Pen Y Fan with a Bergen though; that's tough.

I think we'll be doing California soon too but more for the surf.

Paragliding looks fun but I'm not great with any sport that needs a tonne of kit.

Luckily I've always excersised in some way, the last year and a bit of not smoking has had a drastic effect on my stamina, which is great. I won't be running up, but I'll race you down.

Go North for the surf, you're used to the cold.
