LOL @ Everyone!!!!!!

Biff.
As usual, more straight line stuff is all you can harp on about. Why would anyone spend so much money on power mods if the car's only good in a straight line??? I thought drag racers were the only ones that should be bothered about that!!
Incidentally, in the Scoob vs Cossie shoot-out, EVERY Cossie was trounced by EVERY Scoob in EVERY straight line contest. Funny that....

Andy.
I'm getting a feeling of de ja vu!
Please all stop harping on about new vs old technology. Ford chose to use tried and tested but old technology in the Escort Cos, they didn't have to. The fact that they did is what killed off the Escort anyway!

Stef.

Andy - If God loves a tryer, he must be your live-in lover

Suggest you find out who Pete is before you continue contesting knowledge If your hole gets much deeper, no ladder will be able to get you out

Why don't you actually go and drive an STi (or any impreza) and find out why so many ex-cossie drivers move to Scoobys That is of course assuming you are brave enough to take the RS-blinkers off for more than 5 minutes

so why wasnt the 22b used???

<B>It was great to see Mark Shead's car do the drag runs. Also hilarious to hear some of the banter. "I've got 450 bhp, wot you got?", "460, what you done then?", "bleed valve and dump valve", "yeah same here"</B>

cant comment on that cos i wasnt there, but then that is OWNERS not their cars talking! i do know Steve Tate from Swillington Auto Care in the CPE car had 500+

<B>Oh how we laughed.</B>

i bet you did, yet you were there in a piddly scoob and didnt even get the tyres warm cos you wasnt invited to, oh how they must have laughed!!!!

<B>Marks car was probably the best prepared car there and he was only claiming 400. Some kids (it seemed the more spots they had, the more power they claimed) said they had over 500bhp Ho Hum.</B>

Marks car runs 406bhp with standard gearing and standard wheels, behind mark was MAD Tony Brooks with 403bhp with same setup, behind him was Dave Moss aka YUM360 (chromed engine with bonnet open on video) with 360bhp and standard wheels then behind him was Steve Tate from Castle P.

<B>With regard to the race, of course it was choreographed, it wasn't their cars.</B>

whats that got to do with it???? its not their cars when they do road tests but they still slate them!!!!

<B>Yes, Mark's car would have been quicker with Leda, but then the STi would have been quicker if it had not been using THE FACTORY ECU AND RUNNING STANDARD BOOST PRESSURE. </B>

at the end of the day we are talking about old ford technology versus new subaru technology, the old ford technology still COMMANDS more money than a new scooby cos they are simply far more reliable (no 3rd bearing problems, stone chip on soft paint problems etc and hold their value while producing twice the power!!! lets get real, if the STi had had anything more done to it it would have either melted, grenading the 3rd bearing etc how crappy!!!

<B>Tyres, not really an issue with two straights and two bends, the Scooby just used what it had to better effect.</B>

of course its an issue!! with ONE bend the outcome could have been different!!!! stronger side walls will give a different reaction to the car when going round sideways at speed!!!!!

<B>So there you go, if you live in Nevada, get a Cossie, if you have to go round corners, get a Scooby </B>

i got married in Nevada and didnt see one cossie or scooby, funny thing is they DID seem to know what a cossie was, yet a 'scooby' was only referred to as a dodgy looking dog, so i guess they knew what these were too then!!!!!

<B>I rest my case M'lud. </B>

unfortunately the fact that you have already committed fraud by trying to pass of a ****e car as something good, the council wont look good upon you this time and sentence you to find somewhere with a RWD cossie to show you what real fun and performance is all about!!!!

<B>ps Why do you all wear puffa jackets anyway?</B>

its the new fashion mate, you know like scoobs were in fasion a few years back then quickly went out.....

Cool

Biff,

WTF are you on about??

If they had tested the Scoobs v Cossie further it would have been 5-1?? How does that work then.

My "competitor" couldn't even get close to Stef, let alone me.

You come out with so much cr4p - bet you've owned TVRs before haven't you? Or have you got one now. Those owners are normally as FOS as you

No offence to any imprezas out there but where is teh technology in the impreza?

To my knowledge have there diffs and a longitudinal four pot engine the same as the cosworths.

There is no new technology. I think you are thinking of the evo and the skyline.

Our cars (imprezas) are just a well thought out version of old technology.

1 lsd in the back same as a cossie, and a viscous coupling I think in the middle. To my knowledge invented by ford (patented by my father) and used on the cosworths as well as xr4x4s.

So where is the technology advantage?

You lot have abs, I don't. Do you have more technology than me?

PS. there is no way that any cosworth is better looking than a 22B! and of the cosworths, the only decent one was the escort which is a stunning car.

oh biffo

1) If they tested the Cossie and Scooby futher then it would have been 5-1 to the Cossie

erm....the only documented multi-part Cossie Vs Scoob test had the Cossie's lose 4-1

2)Scoobys have much more advanced technology

And use it well

3) Scooby`s are as ugly as f*ck!

True - but at least they are 1990's ugly rather than 1980's ugly. Either way they are no where near as ugly as medallion man, be-spoilered cosworths/GTi-Rs etc

4) The engines can`t run much power and they melt quite often even in STANDARD form!

Yeh, 350+ from a two litre engine is crap But you forget that they don't need to run big horsepower to compete

5)I DON`T own a Cossie

Do you own a car?

6)I DON`T own an RS

...no, just sound like one

7)In FACT i DON`T even own a Ford

...or know how to use caps lock Are you old enough to drive?

When you leave school and pass your driving test, ask someone (nicely) to let you drive the cars you slate to venomously but make sure your baseball cap is the right way round first

Garyc,

I said longitudinal four pot, whch encompasses both impreza and cosworth.

They are both engines whose configurations have been around for years, so it is irrelavent that one is a boxer and one is a straight four. There is no difference in the level of technology there.

If you want to continue, they both have sixteen valves, neither has vvt etc. BUt I had to stop somewhere.

Damn, this is a funny thread.

Ford have been in F1 for donkeys years. the most successful engine ever in F1 is the Ford Cosworth DFV.

And before you go all primm and proper about names, Ford owns Jaguar. They bought Stewart grand prix, they own Cosworth engineering.

As to the others, well, Ferrari is Ferrari that just happens to be owned by FIAT. McLaren Mercedes engines are actually Ilmor. The only german engine is BMW. sauber uses a ferrari engine, so does prost. Bar and jordan use Honda power, Beneton use renault and are owned by renault, next year you will see renault cars, beneton will disapear as a name. and so on...........

The cossie YB engine series was concieved out of an old design, as an afterthought by cosworth to market a 16valve head to bang on the pinto, rather like warrior have made.

It was Stuart turner and his cronies that realised the potential for winning touring car races if they turbocharged this, little did they know what would follow.

The cossie motor is tall and heavy but it's strong as hell so it's great for power yet poor for handling.

There is nothing high tech in a scooby, its very simple. It gains masively in the handling arena because it has a light power plant with a very low centre of gravity. It is not as tunable as a cosworth engine simply because the block isnt as strong. It is perfectly adequate for the job of handling 300BHP though.

Given the choice on a race track i would go for handling and light weight every single time.

Pointless compairing the cars dynamically because they are so diferent, which is better is down to conditions and circumstances.

Dont agree the escort cossie is the only good cossie either. My 2wd 350BHP sapphire was seriously quick and handled superbly. It is much quicker than a 350BHP escort cossie and far more fun to drive. It had great leather recaro trim also. I took that to 99,000 miles and used it on track pretty often. Great car, it just ate rear tyres, or was that my driving style.
