I'v upgraded 3 laptops we have, all from Win 8.1. No issues whatsoever, I find Win 10 much more pleasant than 8.1.
I'm still debating whether to upgrade the desktop from Win 7 though, just in case I break it, not because it's Win 10!

I upgraded my desktop from Win 7, and bar a couple of minor niggles, it's been fine. I'm far from computer savvy, and I managed it.

Windows 10?
I've decided against windows 10 after reading this in link posted.
Microsoft's spying on you is pretty awful. Windows 10 calls home with essentially every last thing you do and search for by default. Finding and disarming all the different ways Microsoft spies on you is difficult at best, and a futile game of whack-a-mole at worst.
It is perhaps not fair to project the experiences of participating in the open beta onto the release version of Windows 10, but I did get pretty sick of having to go in and defang Microsoft's creepy doll Cortana spymaster every time a major patch came out.
The NSA can go straight to hell, as can any company slurping up my info into data centres where that data can be easily "requisitioned". I may not be able to keep the NSA out of my data, but I do intend to make the poxy whoresons work for it!

I have lost all trust in Microsoft after reading about some of the stuff in Windows 10 (some of which seems to be retrospectively being applied to 7 and 8)

Have you got proof of that happening?

It will be interesting when the tech companies face a backlash against these data harvesting tactics from consumers
Or maybe people will simply accept it as a price for "convenience"

I'd like to see proof of that to. Means i'd have to check checking for updates. I'm sure people will accept it. Most people do now with smart phones and Inyourfacebook, thats one reason i dislike Android as theres no options to stop apps using your camera pictures etc. Even the scoobynet app uses your location? What for? Luckily with the Iphone your can turn it all off.
Even xbox kinect is a nosey peice of tech. In the the terms there can use any back ground noise, so even if your not using your xbox they can use micro phone maybe even camera.

Microsoft intensifies data collection on Windows 7 and 8 systems
This changed recently with the release of several updates for both operating systems that step up the game.
Microsoft lists two host names in KB3068708 that data is received from and sent to:

Well, I did the Win 7 desktop. Disaster! It completely screwed it. Office was so knackered you couldn't run the repair or the uninstall. Lots of other stuff complained about licences. The AV software was knackered. The evnt view just showed hundreds of errors, looks like it screwed the registry.
Went back to Win 7, all works fine, which is a shame because I really like Windows 10. Hey ho

How many processes are you guys running generally in 10 with say a couple of browsers open, some folders, a usual working days setup?
Mine is running @ around 125-130 just with email and a couple instances of Chrome open (and 3-4 tabs on each), which seems a tad high? I have CCleaner, geforce util, some other bits n pieces running in the tasktray.

I've checked on my desktop this morning xps8700 and it's only running 71 again with outlook open and a shed load of firefox tabs and loads in the system tray. So above was my laptop and that seems to run more stuff with the same apps open so must be drivers and system utilities running in the background.
