Just read some of the posts on the BHP figures thread.
Now I know who's talking bollox....
David, that may well be the case, but the reality is usually that the owner of that Ferrari is as well disposed to pay for it as the owner of that £10k Scoob is of his car.
Net loss is much the same.
There are far too many armchair experts on this board.
I am first to agree that with the same driver a new Ferrari/Porsche whatever can be faster in a given circumstance than a UK Scoob from A to B.
The thread was about anyone ever whooped a Porsche. The answer was yes, plain and simple. I know the limitations of my car.
Then, as before, we get all sorts of jumped up condescending to55er "in your dreams" type responses which are given without ANY knowledge of the facts/occasions/cars involved/locations/driver ability/whatever making sweeping statements and derisory comments. Makes me sick and mad.
Its another fact that many of the top performing cars are owned and driven by people with more money than ability.
D
(And if anyone takes offence at this post, thats just tough)

There's a good point made above. Everyone talks about how they beat this car and that car and that bike .... but how do you know that they were fully extending their machine? The driver / rider may simply have decided that they're going so far, then they're going to let you go. Or they may be just keeping up for fun, without any intention of overtaking ......

I have been overtaken at Goodwood by the following, I don't know the specs but they were quick
GT3
GT2
911 Turbo (The newer shape year 2000 model)
And have overtaken
911 Carrera 2 (ie the old stye 3.2)
911 Carrera 4
You guys are dreaming, by the end of Lavant these guys overtook me at +20mph on my speed (of about 140 by the clock), and I don't drive slow round Goodwood - don't care how rubbish the driver was he would still have overtaken me.
The new Porsche's are blinders I'd have one in a second.

It's all down to personal choice isn't it. If a Porsche owner, or any other recognised expensive sports car for that matter, wants to see what his toy can do against yours then it's up to you to make the descision - yes or no.
The reality effect comes into play in most, and I emphasis most , Scooby owners eyes when they are not beaten to a noticable degree or indeed appear victorious - that £ for £ a Scooby is the best value all round performance car on the road . I have had plenty of chats with other petrolheads after 'meetings' or in petrol stations about performance and most agree that the Scoob is the car to have for bang per bucks enjoyment. However, some of the people who have spoken at me rather than to me appear unhappy that their £70k German performance machine has been well and truley shown up by my £20k Japanese 4 door saloon car
It's all in the mind, is a 0-60 performance difference of 0.2secs going to show up on the Queens highway - probably not. Neither is a difference of 0.2secs in the 50-70 overtaking test. However, if I was driving a £70k supercar and could not significanly lose a £20k 4 door saloon I would want to question the logic of the £50k price difference.
Yex - not sure where that got us to but I feel better after typing it

Mulder,
Agreed! It's another my D*ck's bigger than your D*ck post. Let's face it. 99% of the scooby owners would rather be driving a 993 or 996 Porker if they could, as they are a class apart!
This is obviously IMHO!

Short answer is yes and I've got the videos to prove it. I was passed by a few also.
DavidBrown - why not push the car. You can afford it and it's insured. No probs.
If you look at the ring footage and pics, you'll see porches being embarrased all over (a 993 and a 996 fairly spectacularly by stef).
You'll also see porches with their back ends all mushed up because they were being pushed.
Only two scoobs got damaged.
Have a laugh but minimise the risk. Do it at the frickin Nurburgring. It frickin rocks...

Yes, I have whooped many Porsches and Ferraris, mainly because their drivers are a) pussies, or b)crap.
Their cars are far more capable than my UK MY99, IMHO.
BUT I have also been whooped by people in SRi's, etc because my opinion of what is risky on the road is different to theirs, and I will quite happily lift off if I think I am putting other road users at risk.
It's all a bit meaningless.

Guys,
Interesting discussion, so far we've had guys who can afford supercars have less ability than others(and thats a Diablo certified fact )....obviously not in making money though.
We've an Sti thats quicker top speed than a Porsche(are you sure ?), did you add an after market 6th gear ?
Dissapointed in a 70K German sports car, they may be a bit in comparison the performance of cheaper cars but its not all about performance for these guys,is it?. Next time you meet a dazed and dissapointed owner in the ESSO station ask if they want to swap, or better still ask yourself if you'd swap.
Its unfortunately like HI-Fi often the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, ooohhh yes those gold wires make AC/DC sound much better and improvements cost expotentially more, its just technology.
To the guy who says the C4 ragtop was gutless, the difference in acceleration is due to the different type of power delivery, a NA 6 cylinder won't feel as though it accelerates the same was a 4 cylinder turbo car does, the powerband of the 6 is much wider than on the turbo, the difference is in the length of time your accelerating continuously without having to change gear, its just different not better or worse.
Then the question of where the other 40 or 50K goes, we'll for a start Porsches are better engineered and have newer better technology that a scooby. I can only speak from Sti v's 996, but Porsche is certainly nicer inside, looks a wee bit better outside and sounds much better from the inside(scoob better from the outside). Is it worth 40K more , no but if all we're talking about is BHP per pound then I'll get my 4grand Yamaha bike out and whip all your asses.
Its all relative and subjective, people are happy to dismiss top speed as its quicker in the Porsche than in a Scooby, and the question of rain always comes into it. Why can we not just all relax and enjoy cars for what they are, things of our dreams to be enjoyed and money wasted on them its not a pissing contest, or is it ?. Think of it like grown up top trumps.

I had a Porker feel the need to race me. I didn't realise it until he booted off. Down a narrowing 50mph slip road.
I found out after commenting what a prat he was that my mate had been giving him the evil eye.
There's nothing wrong with having a bit of fun on the road providing the conitions allow. Flame suit on.

I was done my a 17 year old in a Nova last week in MY00, why? Cause I was scared by his fake bonnet vents when he was behind me?... No, was it the bolt on 10" tube he'd bolted onto his 1" haust pipe when he was infront?...No
It was the high probablity that he would get carried away and go OVER the roundabout at the end of the bypass rather than round it and kill either himself or worse still some poor bugga minding their own.
I get more joy out of watching people think they've beat me than I do trying to prove that my sub 6 second 145mph car beats their ponce mobil.
IMHO anyway....everyone to thier own I guess.

Megastream,
You just kill me,in one mail you slag off a guy cause he's got a nova thats been adjusted and then say guys with more expensive cars than you are ponces. Who's being a bit of a poseur now, hey Nova boy , check my Scoop its real.
Obviously you're happier to be in the middle then, the guy in the Nova's no different to the guy in the Quote "Ponce Mobile" who's no different to the rest of us.

This has probably gone on too far now but I was at Chapplegate the other week looking at a GT2. The thing has £7000 brakes and under full force, records negative 3 G's. Fighter pilot teritory.
It also does 0 - 100 - 0 in some ridiculous time, where we would still be reaching for 90! I dont think anyone has a hope in hell of touching one of these. On the other hand it does cost £130k

GET REAL. Me, Dingy & co were having a laugh not serious, u my friend are in cloud cuckoo land Got a Uk scoob myself M8 with exhaust mods and fine car it is too but as far as outdraggin my GTR it wouldn't see which way the GTR had gone. FACT pure & Simple
My Skyline has proven to be faster than Birdy's P1 (apart from back roads) but then I suppose your UK car beats that as well.
Bring it on

well my plastic pig will kill the lot of em in a 0-100-0 contest.
Kill em round most race circuit's too.
But who cares, i know if i had the money a would swap with a GT3 porsche in an instant.
The new porkers are awesome, very few get driven properly though. It's pretty pointless compairing them though as most performance when we are talking proper fast driving is down to the driver, both their ability and willingness to push the car.
I'll push whatever car i own, because i wont buy something i cant afford to get 100% out of. There are plenty out there however who dont get pleasure out of driving in that way, they just like nice cars, and good luck to them.
I still wouldnt have an oil burning hair dressers car though Matt

Spot on M8
I'd have a GT3 as well if I could afford one too, it has been my dream car since I first saw that lurvely spoiler in EVO's road test.
See we aint all "my car is better than anything else on the road" like some
I am happy with my chariot but a porker Hmmmmmmmmm could always sell the house
BTW John how is your bucket of nuts & bolts?
It would be the quickest to 100 and back for sure, best nail it first time tho u probably won't get past 10 mph the second

very funny steve.
My car is now being pretty reliable, i have my actuator busting days behind me now. The only problem i had driving from manchester to the nurburgring, doing some bloody quick runs round there then driving all the way home again was a snapped clutch cable (which any car can have, it was 7 years old!) and a broken mudguard bracket (that isnt designed for 155MPH runs ).
Knockhill, i didnt have a single problem. Cadwell i developed a split in the fuel tank near the filler as some git sat on my bodywork and that crushed down on the tank! I fixed that in 30 minutes.
I am off to the US in a couple of weeks, whilst i am away i am gonna try and get an F1 cored radiator and Intercooler designed and installed so i can stay on track longer. I am also biting the bullet and installing an Aero screen to the car, that adds 15MPH top speed to a megabusa so god knows what diference it will make to my thing, should be bonkers above 100MPH losing all that drag.
Last mod then is to buy some 8.5" wide rear wheels, as my rear tyres are wider than the rims, which makes the tyre roll under on heavy cornering which is limiting the grip and feel significantly.
Once all that is done it should be fairly quick. LOL

I know I know !! Childhood dreams shattered and all that !
I try to console myself by saying things like
- well it's not a track car is it, if you drove it on the road it would be entirely different ? surely ?
- You'd get used to the Seating position, springy gearbox lever and pedals being offset 4 feet to the right (LHD) after you'd driven it for a while ? right ?
But I couldn't forgive the incredibly light steering, wallowy suspension and the fact that it wasn't that much faster in a straight line than the scoob (not 80K faster !)
Nice noise from outside though !

Steve,
Don't ever recall claiming my UK Scoob was quicker than anything, let alone your Skyline
Merely commented on one event where, on the day, me and my Scoob were quicker than some bloke in a 911 C4
And I know he was trying, 'cos we had a chat about it afterwards, all nice and friendly like.
(To make it simple, note *911* not 993, or 996)
You, my friend, clearly have a serious chip on that shoulder of yours about how quick that car of yours is, and I have no doubts it is). But then, so would I if I'd spent that much money on it
If you would acually read the posts before blowing off with that *very* fragile ego of yours, you would have seen that I am under no illusions about how quick (or not) my UK Scoob actually is, unlike some.
I for one don't really care how fast it actually is, just that its fun for the bucks it costs me. Nor do I care how big my d*ck is. Can you say the same???
Cheers

OK guys enough with the slagging match and ego trips, the testoserone levels on this BB seriously need to come down !!!!!!
My original post was meant to spark off a heated debate about the performance of the Scooby VS Porsche. However, i would now like to close this thread, as i feel it has digressed somewhat. Before we do close it though, i would like to leave you all with this thought ...
Whilst driving home last night through Brentford on the A4, 3 lanes, no traffic, no pedestrians, just traffic lights about every 1 mile and lots of cameras. Porsche Boxster came up along side me and gave me the thumbs up, i pulled away and watched him disappear in my mirror.
On coming face to face again at the next lights, my buddy opened his window and said sportingly to the driver 'Come on M8, let's what it can do ?', his response word for word being
'You guys are gonna beat me every time !'
That for me i think just about wraps up this thread. Never thought i would see the day when the humble Japanese 4 door family saloon would be tearing up the streets of UK and whooping German supercars at a fraction of the cost!
Alas that day has arrived .........

Not true, I give my Scooby far more stick than I give my Porsche, because of their relative values. If asked to make the choice, I'd rather bend the Scooby than the Porker.
I've noticed people are far more willing to prove themselves against a Porsche.
In my Scooby I rarely get anyone trying to race me. Whereas in the Porker, every trip I'll have someone wanting to race me, which is rather tiresome.
All those fools I let whizz off into the distance to go kill themselves elsewhere, probably claim they whooped a Porsche.. Hmm.

David, that doesn't prove anything, other than normal human nature. (Oh, and that you are fortunate enough to own both )
If you had a £130,000 GT2 and a standard Carrera, you would give the standard car more stick because of their relative values.
Horses for courses mate. Its all relative to what you can afford.
I can give the Scoob plenty of stick, because its leased. If it was my money (and insurance)it might be different.
There's many who post here who have had a harder time i'm sure financing the purchase of their £10k Subaru than you have had your Porsche.
Mate of mine rags the nuts of his (expensive) cars cos his business pays for them.
