I haven't driven a std Boxter (though I've been taken out round Thruxton in one) but my Step Brother has a Boxter S (as I understand it quite a lot quicker than a non S).

The only place my Impreza is faster is in the off the lights 0-60 (because of the first 30 feet advantage)

I personally wouldn't rate any car on this though if thats what you want buy a drage racer, in every department of interest to me the Boxter S is a far better car.

Most importantly, the handling shows my UK Impreza up for the lumbering 4 Door saloon it really is, no amount of 4WD Trickery is going to make my car handle as sweetly as that Porker does.

(Yes yes, outright grip my Impreza wins, that doesn't mean it handles the way I want it too - and yes I have mods, bump steer Eibachs etc but it's still a big heavy 4 door saloon with bad weight distribution)

- That said, some might choose to ignore my comments as I drove and disliked an F355, obviously it's a personal thing what you like.

Agreed, the the NEW porsches are blinders and I'd have one too in a second.

Anything before a 993 is not a blinder, that's for sure. Good cars, don't get me wrong, but not great (from experience, not armchair expertese).

The 964RS is a great car IMO, not as quick in a straight line as the new Porsches, but it corners superbly well and yup I was driven in one (by a good driver) on a tough country road which I drove down in my Impreza so I have a good back to back comparison. It has lapped the ring at 8'15 same as the RUF CTR2, and a touch faster than the 996 (obviously these aren't perfect back to back tests, but not a bad rough comparison). It's a lot more raw too, has stunning brakes, and a lovely sound from the engine - no soundproofing to spoil the experience.

The Impreza isn't that heavy - the Boxster S weighs about 50kg more. Also if mid-engined cars have better weight distribution, how come they have a reputation for being tricky near the limit? I haven't driven one so can't comment on the Boxsters driving, but if it is the better car, it isn't due to light weight, and probably not weight distribution either IMO. Besides, at near £40k and with only 2 seats it ought to be better!
